Attack speed (often shortened as AS or ASPD) is the frequency at which a champion performs basic attacks and are displayed as "attacks per second." Attack speed caps at 2.5 attacks per second, or 1 attack every two fifths of a second (0.4 seconds).

Attack speed bonuses works by adding a percentage of a champion's base attack speed to his or her "base attack speed." Champions with a low base attack speed will receive less of an attack speed boost from the bonus than champions with a high base attack speed, but the proportional increase in DPS will remain the same for both. One's attack speed can be increased via leveling up, items, runes, masteries, buffs, and abilities. One's attack speed can only be decreased by certain items and abilities.

## Calculations

### Base attack speed

Every champion's base attack speed (ASbase) is calculated using a hidden variable called attack speed offset,[1] which ranges from −0.10 to 0.1241. (ASbase) is the total number shown at level 1 without runes, masteries, etc. It is represented this way throughout the wiki.

### Bonus attack speed sources

Bonus AS% stacks additively.

Example: grants +40% attack speed and grants +50% attack speed, so the champion gains +90% in total.

Notes:

• Final attack speed cannot go above the cap of 2.5 attacks per second.
• Many in-game tooltip percentages (such as runes) have been rounded, so results may be slightly different unless the precise numbers are known.

### Example

• Calculating base attack speed:
• attack delay is −0.04.
• $${0.625 \over (1 - 0.04)} = {0.625 \over 0.96} = 0.651041\overline6$$. This is base attack speed, seen at level 1 (without runes, masteries, etc).
• The number seen in game is rounded to 3 decimal places: 0.651.
• Calculating "bonus attack speed":
• Every time levels up, he gains 3.22\% as bonus AS%.
• At level 18 he has gained $$3.22\% \times 17 = 54.74\%$$ as bonus AS%.
• At 18 he has maxed increasing his attack speed by 30%.
• Let's say he has the mastery up to 5%.
• Let's also say he has : +50%.
• All together he has: $$54.74\% + 30\% + 5\% + 50\% = 139.74\%$$ bonus AS% or 1.3974 bonus AS as a decimal.
• Final calculation:

## Increasing attack speed

### Items

• : +25% attack speed. Unique Passive - Enhanced Movement: +45 movement speed. 1000 gold.
• : +40% attack speed. +25 attack damage, +10% life steal. Unique Passive - Your attacks deal 8% of the target's current health in physical damage (60 max vs minions and monsters). Unique Active - Drains target champion, dealing 10% of the champion's maximum Health in physical damage (min. 100) and healing you by the same amount. Additionally you steal 25% of their movement speed for 3 seconds. 90 second cooldown and 450 range. 3200 gold.
• : +15% attack speed. 450 gold.
• : Passive: On cast or hit, you gain +4 ability power and +4% attack speed. This buff lasts for 8 seconds and stacks up to 8 times. Unique Passive: Falling below 50% health grants you 20% attack speed, 10% life steal, and 10% spell vamp until you exit combat. 30 second cooldown. +45 ability power, +35 attack damage. 2600 gold.
• : +50% attack speed, +60 ability power. Unique Passive: +20% cooldown reduction. Basic attacks deal 15 (+15% AP) bonus magic damage on hit. 2920 gold.
• : +50% attack speed, +30% critical chance, +5% movement speed. Unique Passive: Your champion ignores unit collision. 2800 gold.

• : +30% attack speed, +30 ability power, +30 attack damage, +10% critical strike chance, +250 health, +200 mana, +8% movement speed. Unique Passive - Rage: Basic attacks grant 20 movement speed for 2 seconds on hit. Minion, monster, and champion kills grant 60 movement speed for 2 seconds. Unique Passive - Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals bonus physical damage equal to 200% of your base attack damage. 1.5 second cooldown. 3703 gold.
• : +50% attack speed, +25 magic resistance. Unique Passive: On hit, you deal 42 magic damage and steal 5 magic resistance. This buff lasts for 5 seconds and stacks up to 5 times. 2500 gold.
• : Unique Active: Gain 40% attack speed and 20% movement speed for 6 seconds. +30 attack damage, +15% critical chance, +20 armor penetration, +10% cooldown reduction. 2700 gold.
• : +20% attack speed, +10% critical strike chance, +5% movement speed. 1100 gold.
• : +50% attack speed, +25 attack damage, +10% movement speed, +10% cooldown reduction. Unique Passive - Tenacity: The duration of stuns, slows, taunts, fears, silences, blinds, and immobilizes are reduced by 35%. 2850 gold.

#### Variable Availability

• TC : +50% attack speed, +45 magic resist, +10% cooldown reduction. Unique Active - Quicksilver: Removes all debuffs from your champion. Melee champions also gain +50% movement speed for 1 second. 90 second cooldown. 3000 gold.
• S : +30% attack speed, +12 attack damage. UNIQUE - MAIM: Champion kills, assists and large monsters slain will grant Feral stacks. Basic attacks deal 25 (+1 per Feral stack) bonus magic damage and restore 10 health. Minions and monsters take triple the bonus magic damage. Unique Passive - Gold Income: You may only be in possession of 1 Gold Income item. Unique Active: Places a Stealth Ward at target location that lasts for 180 seconds. 180 seconds cooldown (~1000 cast range). 1800 gold.
• T : On use, grants +20-40% attack speed (based on champion level), grants +20-40 attack damage (based on champion level) and 15% increased damage to Turrets for 3 minutes. 500 gold.
• S : +15% attack speed. Unique Passive - Maim: Basic attacks against monsters deal 60 bonus magic damage and restore 8 health. 775 gold.

## Reducing attack speed

Note: Attack speed reductions stack multiplicatively and take percentages off the final attack speed value after all bonus attack speed has been factored in.

## Notes

• All percentages listed in a champion's attack speed statistic are approximations.
• Attack speed reduction duration is not affected by crowd control reduction. However if attack speed reduction is in one ability with crowd control like , then the crowd control reduction reduces its duration. So attack speed reduction is reduced by the effect only along with other crowd control. This has been changed with Patch 3.13, as Attack Speed Reductions are now counted as Slows.
• is the only ability so far to directly scale with a champion's attack speed statistic. Many other abilities can scale indirectly (for example, through the flat cooldown reduction per attack with ).
