Flash is a blink summoner spell that activates instantly upon being cast, teleporting the player's champion a short distance in the direction of their cursor.

Strategy

Flash.png Flash can easily be used to escape from or catch up with a foe. It can be used to dodge or land abilities. It can also be used to move over walls, either for a quick escape or in response to an opponent's dash.

Notes

  • The cooldown of this spell can be reduced by Summoner's Insight mastery s4.png Summoner's Insight and boots with the Distortion item.png Distortion enchantment. When both are combined, Flash.png Flash has a cooldown of 216 seconds.
  • Flash.png Flash cannot be activated if the player is affected by hard crowd control.
  • Flash.png Flash and Teleport.png Teleport cannot be cast while silenced. This does not hold true for other summoner spells.
  • If cast while in possession of Distortion item.png Distortion boots, it grants a 30% movement speed buff for one second.
  • Despite Flash.png Flash being a blink summoner spell, DariusSquare.png Darius's Apprehend.png Apprehend can be caused to bring you back to DariusSquare.png Darius even after flashing.

Trivia

  • For a time, the inclusion of Flash.png Flash in the game was hotly debated and Riot even considered removing it from the game entirely, with parts of the community for and against removal. As a result, it has suffered several nerfs.
  • One of the pieces of trivia in the loading screen states that it takes 3 hours and 20 minutes (40 Flash) to travel from one fountain to another only with Flash.png Flash and without masteries.
    • Theoretically, it would take 2 hours and 24 minutes to travel from one fountain to another only by using Flash.png Flash, and with 3 points in Summoner's Insight mastery s4.png Summoner's Insight, and the Distortion item.png Distortion enchantment.

  • Cooldown reduced to 180 seconds from 360 seconds.
  • Flash.png Flash now pops incoming projectiles when used.

June 12, 2009 Patch: Reworked

  • Reduced range to 800 from 900.
  • Changed functionality: Flash.png Flash is now cast without the need of a target indicator (i.e. it is cast towards the position of your mouse pointer).
  • Flash.png Flash will automatically flash to the furthest valid range in the direction it is cast at.
  • Flash.png Flash no longer has a cast time (to 0 from 0.5).

May 9, 2009 Patch:

  • Cooldown reduced to 210 seconds from 240 seconds.

May 1, 2009 Patch:

  • Reduced cast time to 0.5 seconds from 0.75 seconds.

Alpha Week 5:
