Prophet of an Elder God

Innate: Illaoi periodically spawns a Tentacle on nearby natural impassable terrain if none are nearby, which remains on the battlefield until killed or when disabled for 60 seconds.

Tentacles deal 10 - 180 (based on level) (+ 120% AD) physical damage when commanded to attack by her abilities. Each tentacle also Heal power heals Illaoi for 5% missing health if it hits at least one enemy champion. See Pet Details for more.

  • Tentacles do not spawn in the Nexus Obelisk's attack range.
  • Impassable terrain also includes terrain that is passable by a team but not by the other, for example base gates.
  • Illaoi has infinite range from which she can spawn a Tentacle. However, if she’s in an area near a spawned Tentacle, she must leave it if she wants to spawn another one.
  • They take about 2 seconds to finish their spawn animation.
  • The Tentacle will continue its spawn animation and be able to start an attack, after the animation ends, even if Illaoi or a Vessel are not nearby,
  • If Illaoi uses Harsh Lesson Harsh Lesson during Tentacles' spawn animation, they won't attack but the SFX of the attack will still be heard.
    • If this happens, after the Tentacle finishes its spawn animation, it will be unable to start an attack for its remaining attack SFX.

Harsh Lesson

Active: Illaoi's next basic attack within 6 seconds gains Range icon 225 bonus range and causes her to Dash leap to her target if it's not inside her base attack range, dealing bonus physical damage (Capped at 300 against non-champions) and commanding all Tentacles in range to attack her target.

Bonus Physical Damage:
3 / 3.5 / 4 / 4.5 / 5% (+ 2% per 100 AD) of target's maximum health

Harsh Lesson resets Illaoi's basic attack timer.

Notes
  • It will not affect structures, but the enhanced attack will be consumed.
  • The attack will break Spell Shield spell shields but it will not prevent the damage or Tentacle slam.
  • The attack will apply spell effects and the bonus damage will heal from Spell vamp icon spell vamp.
    • Since the attack applies both on-hit effects and spell effects it will trigger Muramana item Muramana twice.
  • Harsh Lesson is made of two different abilities which are decided by Illaoi being close to the target or in dash range.
  • The close range one:
    • It's unstoppable, meaning no effect can interrupt it other than death, Illaoi’s or the target’s. Using Flash Flash or Zhonya's Hourglass item Zhonya's Hourglass will cancel the animation but the attack will still hit.
    • Starting the attack before getting in Guardian Angel item Guardian Angel's passive and hitting while she’s in it will not make Tentacles slam.
    • Using it at the same time with Ravenous Hydra item Ravenous Hydra will make her do an unusual dunk.
    • If she starts the attack right before the Spirit vanishes, the attack will still hit, potentially granting Illaoi the Gold gold if she kills it.
  • The dash range one:
    • It's not unstoppable, meaning that effects can interrupt it during the dash and put it cooldown. Flash Flash and Zhonya's Hourglass item Zhonya's Hourglass cannot be used during the dash.
    • She can still dash even if she's Root icon rooted.
    • Having enough attack speed will make her do an unusual dunk.
    • Having increased size will increase the range of her Harsh Lesson but the indicator range will not change.
  • Each parry has got different interactions with this ability:
    • Counter Strike Counter Strike: does not deal damage and does not proc the Tentacle slam.
    • Aegis Protection Aegis Protection and Spirit's Refuge Spirit's Refuge:
      • Close range: does not deal damage but does proc the Tentacle slam.
      • Dash range: does not deal damage and does not proc the Tentacle slam.
    • Blinding Dart Blinding Dart:
      • Close range: does not deal damage and does not proc the Tentacle slam.
      • Dash range: does deal damage and does proc the Tentacle slam.
  • While Grounded icon grounded Illaoi will walk into melee range before using this ability.
  • Attack moving while charging Hexflash Hexflash will delay the attack.
  • Harsh Lesson is able to both trigger Bone Plating rune Bone Plating and deal reduced damage from it with one attack.
  • Close attacking a Spirit that vanishes mid animation, or a target that becomes untargetable (Zhonya's Hourglass item Zhonya's Hourglass, Sanguine Pool Sanguine Pool etc..), will make Tentacles slam, but they won't slam if Illaoi dash attacked it.
  • Using Harsh Lesson will make every successive auto Tentacle attack to not get any Electrocute rune Electrocute / Phase Rush rune Phase Rush / Spellthief's Edge item Tribute stacks.
    • This will stop if Illaoi hits an enemy champion with her Test of Spirit Test of Spirit.
  • Triggering Conqueror rune Conqueror with Harsh Lesson will make every successive auto Tentacle attack to not convert any damage to true damage. First commanded attack will neither gain bonus damage from Conqueror's bonus AD.
    • Using Test of Spirit Test of Spirit before the triggering command completes will enable the Tentacle to convert the damage but it will not give the bonus damage from the bonus AD.
    • Using Harsh Lesson or Test of Spirit Test of Spirit after triggering it will start making Tentacles convert the damage.
  • If an enemy WukongSquare Wukong uses his Nimbus Strike Nimbus Strike on the minions there will be a time interval where Illaoi is able to use her Harsh Lesson and attack move to hit the ally minion, without dealing any damage but triggering the Tentacle slams.

Test of Spirit

Test of Spirit

Active: Illaoi lashes out a tentacle in the target direction that stops at the first enemy struck. If the enemy is a Champion icon champion, their spirit is pulled in front of Illaoi. The target is tethered to the Spirit, and True Sight icon revealed while it remains.

The spirit has the target's current health, armor and magic resist, and remains for 10 seconds, reduced by 1 second each time the target damages Illaoi (by single target or area of effect). If the spirit levels up its remaining duration increases by 1 second. A portion of the damage dealt to the spirit is forwarded to the tethered champion.

Damage Transmission:
25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45% (+ 0.08% per AD)

When the spirit is killed or the target moves too far away, the tether is severed, Slow icon slowing them by 80% for 1.5 seconds and marking them as a Vessel for 12 seconds, Sight icon revealing the area around them for a few seconds.
Each Tentacle will autonomously attack the closest Vessel / Spirit once every 10 seconds.

Vessel

Vessel: It spawns a Tentacle near it every 5 / 4 / 3 seconds, ceased by Damage rating taking down Illaoi.

Notes
  • Spell Shield Spell shields will only prevent your Spirit from being grabbed. Spell shields will not prevent you from becoming a Vessel or prevent Tentacles from attacking you, although they can be used to block a Tentacle's attack.
  • The Tentacle model of the first cast is connected to Illaoi's body and will stop moving when Illaoi does (e.g Stasis icon stasis, Sleep icon sleep, Airborne icon airborne), even though the projectile is still going. It will also not be seen by enemies if Illaoi is invisible.
  • Using Flash Flash during the cast time will change Illaoi's position but the Tentacle will still be directed towards the previous pointed location.
  • Grabbing the Spirit of a champion that has his rage red (e.g GnarSquare Gnar, RenektonSquare Renekton) or it's YasuoSquare Yasuo with his Way of the Wanderer shield on, the Spirit will not show its lifetime (the white bar below the lifebar).
  • Even though MalzaharSquare Malzahar's Void Shift Void Shift and MorganaSquare Morgana's Black Shield Black Shield both make the target immune to crowd control, the first's Spirit can be taken, but not the second's.
  • Grabbing the spirit of a target that is Ambush 2 camouflaged while there’s a control ward revealing them will make the spirit invisible.
  • Spirits are classified as Decoys.
    • The Spirit can only be targeted by Illaoi, her teammates, towers, minions, and neutral monsters--the Spirit's allies cannot target the it.
      • Towers will not increase their damage per shot when attacking it, and they will also deal 50% reduced damage to it.
    • Spirits can intercept effects such as Ace in the Hole Ace in the Hole and Infinite Duress Infinite Duress.
    • Leap of Faith Leap of Faith is specifically coded to interact with Spirits, but will not interact with other Decoys.
    • Some effects will apply as if the Spirit were a monster/minion, such as: Blade of the Ruined King item Blade of the Ruined King, The Black Cleaver item The Black Cleaver, Regurgitate Regurgitate.
    • Spirits cannot get Heal power healed or Hybrid resistances icon shielded by most means. The only way to shield them is by taking Summon Aery rune Aery and using a heal that auto targets champions like Heal Heal or Wish Wish. Even if the Spirit doesn't take any damage because of the shield, the redirected damage still inflicts it.
    • It's immune to Stasis icon stasis.
    • The only stat connected to the Vessel is their level. Leveling up is the only way to increase the Spirit's health, armor and magic resist after it's been pulled out.
    • Killing it rewards you with Gold 25.
  • The target will get slowed only after the tether returns back to it and not instantly.
  • Only Illaoi can see who's been veselled.
  • Redirected damage is calculated by taking the damage dealt before damage modifiers, but after applying Test of Spirit's modifier, and cap it to the Spirit's current health, which will then be affected by damage modifiers of the enemy champion and not the Spirit's.
    • Hybrid penetration True damage is not affected by these modifiers but will be modified by Test of Spirit's modifier.
    • The damage shown being received by Spirit is not representative of the damage redirected to the Vessel, as the combat text shown adjacent to the Spirit factors the Spirit's modifiers - which may be different from the Vessel's (e.g different resistances, Coup de Grace rune Coup de Grace).
      • Stacking Press the Attack rune Press the Attack on the Spirit will only increase the damage against the Spirit and not against the enemy champion.
    • In a hipothetical situation, if both the Spirit as the target have 50% damage reduction from armor, the spirit has 500 HP, and it receives 1000 damage (before resistances), while Test of Spirit has 60% ratio, redirected damage won’t be 1000 × 0.6 × 0.5 = 300 but it will be 1000 × 0.6 = 600, is 600 less than 500 (Spirit's current health)? No, then redirected damage is 500 × 0.5 = 250.
      If instead of being dealt 1000 damage in 1 hit, it would've been dealt in 2 hits, 500 each, the results would have been these: 500 × 0.6 = 300 less than 500 (Yes) 300 × 0.5 = 150 redirected damage (first hit)
      In the meantime the spirit took 500 × 0.5 = 250 damage
      Same thing for second hit, 500 × 0.6 = 300 less than 250(No) 250 × 0.5 = 125 redirected damage (second hit)
      The spirit reached 0 HP because of having taken 250 damage twice.
      Total redirected damage = 150 + 125 = 275
      • Even if total damage dealt to the Spirit is the same in both cases, total redirected damage is higher if it's dealt with less powerful attacks.
  • Damage transferred to the target will apply damage-type specific effects such as The Black Cleaver item The Black Cleaver, Morellonomicon item Morellonomicon, Executioner's Calling item Executioner's Calling, or the healing from Death's Dance item Death's Dance / Hextech Gunblade item Hextech Gunblade, determined by who dealt the damage.
    • It will not trigger on-hit effects or spell effects versus the target (Scorch rune Scorch, Wit's End item Wit's End) although the damage of those effects dealt to the Spirit will be transferred.
  • Attacking both the enemy and its Spirit at the same time will have the enemy receive only one The Black Cleaver item The Black Cleaver stack.
  • Spellthief's Edge item Tribute and Predator rune Predator only reflect double bonus damage, not taking into account actual damage done to the spirit (e.g if Predator rune Predator would deal 60 bonus damage, what would get reflected is 120 damage).
  • Electrocute rune Electrocute / Phase Rush rune Phase Rush / Spellthief's Edge item Tribute stacks can be put on the spirit but redirected damage won't apply any stack on the enemy champion.
  • Conqueror rune Conqueror will convert the redirected damage with the triggering attack.
  • Together with Infinity Edge item Infinity Edge and Conqueror rune Conqueror, Critical strike icon critical strikes will redirect 53.76% of the damage as Hybrid penetration true damage, before Test of Spirit's modifier.
  • Riposte Riposte can prevent from becoming a Vessel if used before the Spirit gets killed or while Lunge lunging out of the tether's range.
  • If a champion is made a Vessel while Guardian Angel item reviving, it will revive without being one.
  • If the target becomes a Vessel in a dormant Tentacle's attack range, that Tentacle will be prevented from doing its first attack.
  • Once the Spirit vanishes (it doesn't need to be killed) Illaoi will get Coup de Grace rune Coup de Grace's bonus ad, Phage item Rage's full movement speed bonus and 1 creep score in-game (they won't be shown in the end of game chat).

Leap of Faith

Leap of Faith

Active: Illaoi leaps into the air Unstoppable icon unstoppably before slamming her idol into the ground, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies. For each enemy champion and Spirit hit, a Tentacle is summoned for 8 seconds (up to a maximum of 5 summons).

Physical Damage:
150 / 250 / 350 (+ 50% bonus AD)

For the duration, Harsh Lesson Harsh Lesson's cooldown is halved, all Tentacles awakened by Illaoi are Playful untargetable, will not go dormant, and will take half the amount of time to make an attack.

  • Illaoi is immune to Stasis icon stasis while in her cast animation.
  • Flash Flash can be used during the cast time.
  • Spirits are counted as champions for Leap of Faith's Tentacles spawning.
  • Illaoi spawns the Tentacles 850 range away from her, unless there's a natural wall blocking the way making the Tentacle spawn on it, based on:
    • The direction she's facing.
      • She will always face at the nearest enemy champion the instant she leaps.
      • If there's no enemy champion nearby, she faces in the direction of the cursor.
      • Flash Flashing mid-animation will change the spawning direction to where the cursor is pointed, regardless of the nearest enemy champion.
    • How many champions she hits.
      • 1+ champions: one Tentacle at 0 degrees.
      • 2+ champions: one Tentacle at 72 degrees.
      • 3+ champions: one Tentacle at 288 degrees.
      • 4+ champions: one Tentacle at 144 degrees.
      • 5+ champions: one Tentacle at 216 degrees.
    • If there're no walls nearby, spawning the last Tentacle will form a perfect pentagram.
  • Spell Shield Spell shields will block the ability's damage but will not prevent Tentacles from spawning.
  • Using Harsh Lesson Harsh Lesson after Illaoi drops down will command Tentacles to instantly attack, regardless if they were already attacking. Their old attack will keep on going and will hit while the second attack is on its animation attack.
  • Using Harsh Lesson Harsh Lesson an instant before Leap of Faith's buff finishes will delay the Tentacle's attack.

Pets

Control type The Tentacle is commanded to attack each time a target in its range gets hit by Harsh Lesson Harsh Lesson.

The Tentacle is also able to automatically attack the closest target in its range every 10 seconds (counted after it finishes its first attack), which can be:

Its attacks get queued up if it receives more than one attack command. The queued attacks will always have 1 attack speed, even if affected by Leap of Faith Leap of Faith's buff.

Target type Ward (can be Teleport teleported to).
On-hit effects Hits through Counter Strike Counter Strike and Aegis Protection Aegis Protection.
Spell effects Applies spell effects as an area of effect ability.
Protection
  • Tentacles that hit the same target within 0.5 seconds of each other deal 50% less damage than the previous tentacle, up to a cap of 75% less damage than the first.
  • Spell shields will trigger but will not prevent damage of tentacle attacks if Illaoi commanded them to attack with a dashed Harsh Lesson Harsh Lesson or because of Test of Spirit Test of Spirit. As far as Test of Spirit attacks matter, only tentacles that are awakened because of Illaoi get the penetration bonus. Those awakened by a Vessel Vessel do not.
    • A Tentacle that penetrates a spell shield this way will not count as doing an attack for the 0.5 second damage reduction. Because of this the reduction will start from the third consecutive tentacle attack, rather than from the second.

Abilities

Slam

The Tentacle damages all non-structure enemies it hits along its length, Heal power healing Illaoi for 5% missing health if it hits at least one enemy champion. Healing stacks multiplicatively if more Tentacles attack at the same time, calculated by this formula: (maximum health − current health) × (1 − 0.95n), with 'n' the number of Tentacle hits.

Distress

The Tentacle alerts Illaoi whenever it takes damage.

Deactivation

The Tentacle becomes dormant if Illaoi and the Vessel Vessel are too far away, disabling its ability to subsequently attack, reducing itself to 1 health and disappearing after 60 seconds of dormancy. The Tentacle instantly reactivates if Illaoi or a Vessel Vessel move back in range.

Enrage

The Tentacle enrages for 8 seconds after Leap of Faith Leap of Faith has been cast, becoming untargetable, unable to go dormant and taking half the amount of time to make an attack.

Vision

The Tentacle grants Sight icon sight of nearby Control Ward item Control Wards, and when about to Tentacle Smash slam it Sight icon reveals both the affected area to allies and itself to enemies.
