  • Remember a long time ago, last year, about a skirmisher concept I was designing? When I asked you about "what's better, crit. chance per missing health or a guaranteed crit with a cooldown, based on missing health?"

Well, Riot beat me, they'll release Kassadin's Daughter, and am sort of sad about this. Much of what I had left of my concept was writing the story (although I already had the idea of what I wanted to do), suppose that the least I can do is release my version here in the coming time so it is remembered somehow...

    • I agree with Lesdin on how Kahrellya may be pushing some bounds to keep the vision you have for her, Primus. While it's good to be attached, too much attachment can become its own undoing. If I can say for myself, this has been an issue on most of my concepts, where devoting myself to the original fantasy of my concepts limited their horizon.

I find that there needs to be a balance betwee "acting defensively" and "accepting advice." If you move too much in the former's direction, you push away possible improvements out of stubbornnes. But being too agreeable also costs the champion in that it will become less your champion and just a pandering collection of a concept, plus some advices may not be actually good. So if you don't mind me saying, but please don't keep the thought of "I commonly preffer to work alone and only showcase it when either I had a mental bump or think that the design is finished. It irks me when someone questions my designs..."

To expand, working alone has its benefits, most especially if your aim is to show your own personal shine in the works. But I personally have found this to be unnecessary as my aim to release ideas that could actually work in the game, not to impress people (which can be secondary). This is why my recent champions have been rather public, such as with Velsi Jhorn and Nevon. We all are irked when our designs are questions, but that's just what it means to "live," you could say. We don't like feeling that we are thinking wrong or doing wrong. But a change of mindset can be made to think that we are all still learning and that these questions are an opportunity to improve ourselves, even if we believe ourselves to be the cream of the crop.

If there is one thing that has bothered me from one of the Ask Riot sessions (though this may be going off topic), but they mentioned once that they don't like change for change's sake... which is understandable. However, I find it that at times, some changes should be implemented not only on the basis of "necissity." To me, this mentality feels like what is delaying splasharts and slice-of-life changes to be made with champions, their lore and even bits of their kit. If anything, while excessive reworking is discouraging, it's inevitable that champions will be outdated, and RITO should be pushing more updates than spacing them out so far for only "the worst of cases." A good dozen champions could be improved, yet they seem to hesitate.

    • I've read Lesdin's proposal days ago, and I'll make some adjustment accordingly... although not in his direction (that I'll explain in another message).

I haven't responded nor made changes because right now have greater problems to deal with, like my parents' cards were cloned and the responsible took all our money from their accounts, so right now we got robbed and have no money and I must make extra time in work to compensate and get some back and quickly.

  • As the title says, I have a champ concept sitting in one of my sandbox. To get straight to the point with this sorta copy-paste message, I've been cooking an idea for a "combat medic" champion, but due to being busy, haven't been able to release ideas without fearing that it'll be mostly WIP. Thus, I've opened it up that fellow content creators like you can check it out and, if you wish, edit your own thoughts onto the page. Of course, if possible, put a comment at the bottom of the page like the old talk page style or in the edit-submission-comment section so I know intentions.

The link to the sandbox is here. Thank you and I hope to see a livelihood in the sandbox.

  • I also messaged GreenMoriyama about this, as you two are, IMHO, probably the most prolific and best champion designers on LoL Wiki. (Honorable mention goes to PoisonShark & Primus)

So I've been thinking about this concept for a while, but I'm having trouble... The idea is a sort of living Nexus champion, so it would be crystal-like (it looks like a Nexus but more rugged, more unstable, its form constantly shifting), and colorful: blues, reds, purples, a touch of green. It seems to pulse with energy / light when it speaks, and little bits of crystal orbit around it.

I was wondering what kinds of ability names you would suggest for such a champion. I wanted names alluding to mathematics but mathematics is not my area of expertise. For example, the words hedron and tesseract come to mind, but I can't think of any others (as my champion creation process is usually informed by the names for the champion's abilities, then I figure out what they do, or should do based on those names.) :(

Also, for example, I imagined an ability called Tesseract Form (or something similar.) The ability would render Living Nexus invisible to enemy champions within a 90° cone in the target direction (extending approximately 1500 units out.) You inspired this ability long ago.

    • I mean... I usually start with the abilities themselves and then try to think of a name, so I fear I may not be too helpful in this regard if all you can provide me is a rough idea of the champion's aesthetics. Though conversely, I wouldn't mind giving you some ideas as to how a champion with some geometric themes could work (without entirely resorting to the obvious angular mechanics).

That said, some words that do that come to mind are Congruence and Rhombus. If Green isn't able to provide you with any hefty answers either, try researching the likes of Geometry and Vector space. If it's inspiration you're looking for, rather than an actual starting point for a kit, you should be able to find it there.

    • I'm rather in the same boat as Lesdin. While I've surely found names before their abilities... I prefer naming later so that it doesn't sound detached or a ability name that can be applied to any other ability (though there isn't a high chance other champ abilities will have mathematical names).

Seeing that Lesdin did post links to where I would send you to if you were looking for inspiration... I'll just sit back and recommend those. If you had specifics in mind, just ask away. I will admit, a nexus champ hasn't appealed to me (at least for the League-verse), but I do feel you could make me change that opinion.

    GreenMoriyama VJ teaser music
e "In the name of Marine Snow..."

For every swing of my blade or every shot I take, none is without my Frost Powder. Much like Diamond Dust of the cold seas and my dedication to Marine Snow, the ocean mother. Because I am none other than the Wintertide Corsair, V---- -h---.

What more will GreenMoriyama VJ profile icon The Wintertide Corsair deliver?

    • I'm sorry, I've exams until the 16th.

I'm sure some other people will be able to though. Asking around isn't a bad thing, so be sure to do it to more people. Surely GreenMoriyama and Witchking would be willing to review again.

  • Hey Lesdin,

Since you seem to know a lot about cosmetics, I was wondering if you knew how to make < tabber > tags look like < tabview > tags.

... or any better than the regular ones look, really.

    • You could try modifying the hide/show function of most ability descriptions for vertical sectioning. Tell me if you're interested.

      EDIT: Like the following.

    • While content like my Custom Patch Notes would need the use of a tabview, I would rather avoid using it for simpler things like my Champion Concept pages, simply because I like being able to move between the Abilities, Strategy and other tabs as fast as possible. I guess I'll have to use tabviews if I want the pages to look better.

I've never really considered vertical sectioning, nor do I think it really fits champion concept pages. I'll remember to ask you when I need more help. Thanks!
