Sona, the Maven of the Strings is a champion in League of Legends.[2]

AbilitiesEdit

Sona uses the stance mechanic. Her basic abilities all have a persistent aura effect which remains for as long as she doesn't activate another ability. Additionally, her auras remain for two additional seconds after changing stances. Each ability also has an activation effect upon being cast. Sona's basic abilities also set off a two second cooldown to the other two basic abilities.

Patch v1.0.0.134

Power Chord
(Innate): After casting 3 spells, Sona's next attack deals extra 8 + (10 × level) magic damage. This enhanced attack has an additional effect depending on which spell aura she currently has.

  • Boring...

  • Female Udyr.

  • If they wil just ad a AP ratio to her passive just to add to her late game a bit, Because sometimes aura bot just won't win the game

    • I always kinda wonder at AP Sona's. As it stands, I feel like if you wanna help deal damage with Sona a sheen is better than any other AP item, since she has very few ratios. Woot 1.5 AP burst with a .25 AP heal!

    • If you wish to be a damage dealing Sona play with a lichbane.

      That is all.

  • When I first tried the support role I picked Soraka and got flamed at a lot. I want to try it again. Will I get flamed at as Sona too?

    • Flamed for what? She's a good support. Your team should be happy someone actually picked a support.

    • Depends, if the problem is that your team doesn't understand the value of supports then yes. However its not like you are picking an inherently bad support.

    • I'm surprised they raged at you for picking soraka. Soraka and Janna seem to be the leading supports nowadays, atleast in my matches. You should be fine for picking Sona.

  • Sona FW 2mmrw, and I just bought her like 2 days ago. RIOT!!!!!!!!

    • You're still going to own her after the free week, no need to cry about not waiting until free week is announced until you buy a champ.

  • What's up w/ her? I thought Riot buffed her, yet I rarely c her in games. Why is she so underplay?

  • Can she have all 3 auras activated at one time? I think i saw it in the spotlight but im unsure sum1 pls englighten me

    • No she cannot. her auras will remain for 2 seconds after changing it so at max you can have 2 auras.

    • She used to be able to have all of her auras up at one time. They reduced the persistent aura duration however.

HOWEVER, with 40% CDR, you can apply all of her auras just as one fades, which is the closest you can get.

    • It actually is possible to have all 3 up at the same time, you'll need 40% cooldown reduction and you'll have to spam to keep them up.

    • actually I tried that before, had cdr boot, shurelya's reverie, 6% cdr from mastery on her

  • I commend Riot for doing a good job in nerfing her to the ground along with a blue unicorn... Will it be too much to ask that instead of a buff for her, Sona gets to keep all her auras from her abilities? That would encourage people to try her out again since I've been seeing less and less Sona lately...

    • I don't want to see more Sona. If more people start playng her, and that person is on my team, then I don't get to play her.

I like where she is at right now. Works good, for my play style at least.

    • ^ Is that a little too selfish?

    • What do you mean? Like all her auras are permanet all the time after she uses them? If that's what you mean, kinda sounds OP to me.

      And yeah, That's selfish

    • Her auras are not permanent. They last some time, and only two seconds after another aura is activated

    • I think she is in a fine place. Her spells are decent, and her ult is still a gamechanger when used properly.

    • Yup, they pretty much weeded her out of even being picked at any serious ranked game. A job well done for Riot.

    • Think that Riot gives a fuck about more healing and stat-giving supports like Sona. Rambo supports like Alistar or Leona are far more effective now. I know, actually u just have to ward and play safe against these aggressive supps, but u loose a lot of creeps, when u are sitting under the tower. In the end Alistar just shits on everything and tower dives us to the ground. Hate it, but think this type of support that Sona represents is just out of need. Maybe for some "AoE-comps", but at my low elo my teams don't even know what team composition means. Riot should balance that more passive and aggressive supports can play against each other w/out making it too easy for one side to dominate the other one. I mean, if u have an Alistar/Leona/Blitzcrank as enemy support, u just have to back off to ur own tower because, otherwise their CC will destroy u.

    • I do agree that she needed some nerfs here and there but Riot went overboard with the nerfs. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one playing Sona ._.

    • her stun dosent even last long n bsides banshee veils counter her stuns if the opposing team gets it early game

    • Did you just say Soraka is nerfed to the ground?

      AH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-*chokes*
      *dies*

    • For the record, the OP wasn't saying "MAKE ALL HER AURAS PERMANENT LOLOLO", s/he said that Sona HERSELF has all three auras affecting HERSELF at all times.

  • She needs a buff of some sort so she is as viable as Janna and Soraka (or the two needs more nerfs). I wanna play Sona because I love her autoattack animation but her UPness always discourage me from playing her.

    • UPness? What do you mean?

    • She's not underpowered. How can anyone who has seen her ult think she is UP? That ult, properly used, is such a gamechanger. Same for Janna too, but Janna also takes more skill in my opinion, and your lane partner has to be reliable as well to be Janna. Sona is fine.

  • I'm assuming Purple Power Chord is usually the way to go?

    • I generally use my Power Chord as follows:

Staccato for harassing/poking in-lane and for ganking if you have other CCs available, like Morgana's root, that would make Tempo unnecessary. Also used for downing Dragon/Baron more quickly, stealing jungle buffs, and farming lanes, which you shouldn't be doing generally, but sometimes you need to help save a tower.

Diminuendo is my Power Chord of choice in teamfights. Used on the opposing AD or AP Carry, it makes a noticeable difference and can change the outcome. It can also help your AD Carry in early game lane fights.

Tempo I use for ganking and escaping/helping an ally escape. Opening with a Crescendo, and then followed by a Tempo after the stun has worn off can almost gaurantee a kill.

  • i Phrased my last comment a little oddly. I was wondering if there are any tips for going ap sona. I like her kit a lot but the one time i tried her out i failed. Im baller with other supports like Karma and Jannah < those to are my two best champs and i go ap and often carrie my entire team weather i go top or middle. any tips or andvice in general imabout to get the ip to get her and thinking about her or kass

  • whats a decent build for "AD Sona"?

    • 6 Phantom Dancers ? :P

I would say u can take the simple way of a hyper carry since AD Sona seems more like a troll carry anyway ^^ : Doran's stacking -> Berserkers -> Bloodthirster -> Phantom Dancer/ Trinity Force, cuz u can constantly spam abilities -> Infi. Edge -> Last Whisper, if they are tanky. At the end u can add a Guradian's Angel, Banshee's Veil or an Quicksilver Sash (QSS) to survive a focus of the enemy team.

    • RagingMayo is completely right, but scrubs will tell you otherwise.

AD Sona is a troll build. I only play AD Sona when I am trolling. It is a troll. Troll troll troll troll troll.

That said, I *like* trolling with AD Sona, and when I do it, I rush a sheen for mana and a great proc, then Zeal which will eventually become a phantom dancer, then a bloodthirster or an infinity edge, depending on how my money is going. Eventually that Sheen will have to become a Trinity Force, and you'll need an infinity edge too...

The thing about AD Carry Sona is that her ability to generate money is sort of... well bad. Most AD Carries get their bursts of money through getting the lucky first blood and their farming but AD Sona has a bit of trouble doing either of those things... so what you'll want to do is if you ever get 1650 gold, oh my god back and buy that BF Sword... but otherwise just buy the best item you can buy every time you die or need to back. Most expensive item that builds toward what you eventually want to be.

As with most all troll builds, you are NOT THAT THING until you get the items for it.

    • An AD Sona player can't be serious if he doesn't rush (after gold item/s) Wriggles Lantern. This item is literarily created for troll AD support builds.

    • You guys are all loofs AD sona is perfectly viable, I have done it in ranked several times each time possessing a kdr of 5+. She lanes well with a tank such allistar, leona etc this is because her Q (maxed first) does a lot of dmg without ap, provides bonus ap and ad aswell as procing your passive. Items should be Dorans blade, boots, sheen, vamp scepter, phage,mercs/berserks, trinity, IE, PD, GA and BT. I find this build works well, the only thing is you need to build Ie and PD to be to transition well into late game, trinity is absolutely core and BT gives you needed sustain. So that leaves room for a defensive item (GA) or an item to counter armor stacking (last whisper or black cleaver). Skill order R>Q>W>E. Always spam your q's for dmg from the sheen, spell and passive and for the wonderful aura. Sona falls off mid game, but returns late game with her OP ult.

  • Question to ur awsome sona palyers. i look at her skills and abilites and i think awsome i tired her in the free week a few weeks back and fed a ton. I love playing suports and karma is my favorit. the way i play suports is ap i like to be a suport through my abilties than through item aura. And the thing i want to know is how to play ap sona and just the play style of sona in general (with out item build i like figureign that out myself).

    • I want a reason to buy her

    • AP Support Sona? Now that's a rare one.

Let's see hre...... Her ratios are great, her sustain is good, her ultimate is mind-blowing.....

Yeah, that's about it, I've never seen her as an AP carry though :|

    • Reason to buy her: BEWBS ;)

she's the first champ i bought with that reason alone

    • if you want to support with abilitys and builds nicely with ap, try support with lux. she cant heal and has no aura but she has great damage output and her snare can get people killed. she also has a shield if you want to add a little defencive support (shield IMO is useless). she is also good at zoning and with ashe with you the others will probably get underleved (unless playing very agressivly)

    • One reason to buy Sona is the fact that she is a consistent support and will aid you learn the supporting role perfectly. None of Sona's abilities need much thinking of strategy to use, ALL of them are suited to Defensive Loose, Impulsive play:

      Feel cocky? click Blue.

      Feel afraid? click Green.

      Got startled? click Purple.

      Your allies will love you.

    • If you're looking to play a general support champion, Sona is THE universal support champion, as there is absolutely no team comp that will not benefit greatly from her. She is probably one of the most basic supports, easy to use, and needed in any teamp comp.

  • passive should have a 0.2 AP ratio

    by Xyonon
  • sona is a weak jungler

  • I like to Jungle Sona.

  • Why can't her passive also have a AP scailing, and no it won't make her OP support sona won't be affected nor wil AD sona but AP sona can atleast get a nice burst

  • Silly Sonas playing support. The true way to play her is Manamune Bruiser!

    by Krufix
  • Wiit be OP if she heals 2 people when she has full HP?

  • The LoL website says her crescendo has a 900 range instead of 1000.

  • I have an idea for a Sona Halloween skin: Make her bone-thin, like she was malnourished, her clothes are rags stained with dirt and tears, her ethwal a broken and pitifully rusting instrument, her attacks as forceful tears and silent wails, like the cruel world has denied her even the ability to voice her sorrows as well, her auras are a violent pool of tormented sound, the damned and the suffering souls reaching out from it, trying to grasp for help, their silent wails matching the broken musician. PROFIT!!!

  • Can anyone tell me if the following build is good:

Early/mid game: Heart of Gold + Philosopher's stone + Kage's lucky pick & Boots of Mobility & Tear of the Goddess and Sight Wards

The boots will help a lot to throw the wards on time and still help on teamfights, and on late game upgrade them to Deathfire grasp (Which will help damaging the foes), Shurelya's and that Locket for support, an archangel's staff for mana and in the end I'll have space for a lich's bane (for more MS and damage to assist).

Does anyone support this build? :3

    • I get those boots for Sona and Soraka. I've never bothered with Kage's Lucky Pick though, I've never really needed it. The tear is really nice on her and helps her aura swapping especially when you upgrade it to an AA staff.

If you get some gold per 10 runes it could also help you not need the pick. But as I said, while I've never really needed the added gold or mana regen, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm assuming you end up selling it though.

    • But the deathfire grasp has more mana regen and cooldown reduction which is another good point, while I use mana regen and move speed runes. What else would you advise to replace it? :3

    • I honestly never thought much of it. I usually end up having Boots of Mobility, Shurelya's Reverie, Locket of the Iron Solari/ Randuin's Omen, Aegis of the Legion and when I manage to get that far, Archangel's Staff. i try to build the tear somewhere in there, usually pretty early, but not before I have at least one gold item.

I rarely get to my third full item (the Aegis) and even more rarely to the Archangel's Staff, as the game is either won or lost by then. I will try out the DFG/Pick though. I might not have worded my reply properly, but I wasn't saying it's a bad item for her, I just really never considered it, as the items I normally build have a more direct "supporty" value to them.

    • The build is not bad at all but I suggest you to get Philo Stone first (because of the mana , which you're going to need a lot as a support) , and the Health regen is not bad. Heart of Gold is fine , It can be upgraded into Locket of the I.S. which I casually get with Sona(not always) , Tear of the Goddess is a must for me , I ALWAYS get It nearly mid game or a bit before , If you upgrade is into Archangel's Staff It can help you with the mana a lot(Basically you can spam spells due to the low CD) , I should try Boots of Mobility , I heard they're good for supports(even Nhat Nguyen uses them lol) , but I usually get a Mercury's Thread to help with CC , LB and Deathfire are fine. The only thing I don't like is Kage's , because It only gives a few amount of AP and the upgrade , well , I think It sucks for Sona.

    • I used to always buy tears for Sona but when she started getting squishier i opted to swap Tear of the Goddess for Chalice of Harmony. Chalice proved better for me now since her nerfs and her increased squishiness mandated me to get Doran's. Usually I find i have enough mana for repeated spammage from Base Mreg, Dorans Ring, Philos and Chalice alone.

  • is she good for something else than feeding the enemy carry with that squishyness?

  • I think she should get a super damage nerf to make way for increased attack range. Even increase the numbers in her utility if necessary.

  • I play Sona more AP Carry, it works rather well once you get Archangel's Staff. Her 'Q' at 5 and R timed right is enough to murder. Switch between Q and W and E often to charge up Power Chord and switch to Q for most power chord damage.

    I usually get Doran's Ring - Sorcerer's Treads - Archangel's Staff - Will of the Ancients - Rabadon's Deathcap - Void Staff - (Sell Doran's Ring) Abyssal Scepter

Normally my Build is more for Ziggs in terms of masteries and runes.

    For abilities:

    1: Q (Hymn of Valor)

    2: W (Aria of Perserverance)

    3: Song of Clarity (E)

4: Hymn of Valor (rank 2)

5: Hymn of Valor (Rank 3)

    6: Crescendo (R)

7: Hymn of Valor (Rank 4)

8: Aria of Perserverance (Rank 2)

9: Hymn of Valor (Rank 5)

10: Song of Clarity (Rank 2)

    11: Crescendo (Rank 2)

    12: Aria (Rank 3)

    13: Aria (Rank 4)

    14: Aria (Rank 5)

    15: Song (Rank 3)

    16: Crescendo (Rank 3)

    17: Song (Rank 4)

    18: Song (Rank 5)

(Edit: Sorry for long post being long)

    • the problem is you are a supporter you will never get the gold needed for that build.

if you are playing the AP carry mid, her ap rations are awful

    • So far, it's worked for me. Yes, the gold is slightly difficult to come by, but when gotten finally, it's a pretty good build.

    • No CDR? It helps to have that ult up every minute, not to mention the fact that you could give yourself (and your team, for that matter) free stats with all of your auras.
