The Spawn, also known as the Fountain, is where the summoner's champion spawns, respawns after dying, and appears after Recalling Recalling. Players can purchase items while at the spawn, regain health and mana, and are protected by the Nexus Obelisk. If a player disconnects, their champion will attempt to return to the Spawn by walking. The term fountain is a leftover from League of Legends' predecessor Defense of the Ancients, in which heroes spawned from the fountain.

Location

Each team has their own Spawn located behind their Nexus on the edge or corner of every map. They are located in the bottom left (blue) and top right (red) on Summoner's Rift, the bottom (blue) and top (red) on Howling Abyss, center left (blue) and center right (purple) on Twisted Treeline and Crystal Scar (these spawns have top/bottom exits).

Regeneration

The Spawns in Summoner's Rift, Twisted Treeline, and Crystal Scar will regenerate a percentage of the champion's maximum health and mana every second (Summoner's Rift 2.1% per 0.25 seconds) After 20 minutes on Summoner's Rift, the Homeguard Homeguard bonus will automatically be granted, giving increased health and mana regeneration as well as 175% bonus movement speed that decays over 8 seconds.

The Spawn in Howling Abyss does not regenerate health or mana, and leaving the immediate vicinity disables usage of the shop until the champion respawns.

Player Disconnection

When a player leaves the game, his or her champion will automatically attempt to walk back to base. Soon after arriving at the base, the champion gains a huge bonus to armor and magic resistance; this is to prevent enemies from using global abilities (such as Jinx's Jinx's Super Mega Death Rocket! Super Mega Death Rocket! or Karthus' Karthus' Requiem Requiem) to instantly kill champions that have disconnected early in the game. Players who have disconnected prior to the start of the game are granted the same bonus armor and magic resistance.

Trivia

  • Until the release of Draven, disconnected players only received bonus magic resist in the fountain. This was changed after Draven's release to also grant additional armor as his ultimate was the first global ability to deal physical damage.
