Tips

Playing As Taric Taric
• The cooldown reducing component of Bravado.png Bravado makes Cooldown Reduction items like Frozen Heart item.png Frozen HeartIceborn Gauntlet item.png Iceborn Gauntlet, and Spirit Visage item.png Spirit Visage exceptionally powerful on Taric.
• Using Starlight's Touch.png Starlight's Touch at lower charges makes its healing less Mana efficient, but can greatly increase Taric's sustained damage via Bravado.png Bravado.
• Rather than saving Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance for the last moment and risking someone dying during the delay, it can be more beneficial to cast it as soon as you know a teamfight is guaranteed to start.
Playing Against Taric Taric
• Taric's ultimate, Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance, has a long delay before its effect. Try to quickly assess whether to disengage a fight or attempt to kill his allies before it goes off.
• Taric reduces his spell cooldowns by basic attacking enemies with Bravado.png Bravado. Try to kite him in teamfights and punish him for approaching the minion wave in lane.

Tricks

Ability Usage
• Starlight's Touch.png Starlight's Touch and Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance are AoE spells for your allies, and Dazzle.png Dazzle is linear skillshot with a medium-sized hitbox. Try to position yourself properly so you can stun as many enemies as you can while simultaneously protecting and healing your team.
• Most teams are divided in two parts during teamfights - the frontline and backline. If you are in the frontline use Bastion.png Bastion on your ADC, and if you are in the backline use Bastion.png Bastion on your tank/bruiser or your APC if they are melee like Diana Diana or Fizz Fizz.
• Doing so ensures that your spells, especially Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance, can get their maximum coverage and benefits.
• Due to the 100% attack speed bonus from Bravado.png Bravado, AD marks can provide good damage output if you land Dazzle.png Dazzle properly.
• Bravado.png Bravado can allow you to have Dazzle.png your stun up every 4 sec if you have target next to you along with 40% CDR. Keep in mind that even if you miss the ability, you should autoattack a nearby enemy to reduce its cooldown so you can try again.
• Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance has a long delay, and most of the time the enemy team will try to kill your carries before the proc. Use it right after you use Dazzle.png Dazzle, this will help your carry defend itself for the 2.5 seconds delay and then kill the enemy during the next 2.5 seconds in which they are immune.
• Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance can be very effective for hit-and-run tactics. You can use it to discourage enemies from fighting you as your team destroys their tower and then go back. Remember to let your team know they have to go back if they don't want to teamfight without your ult.
Mastery Usage
• Fleet of Foot mastery s4.png Wanderer and Wanderer mastery s4.png Explorer allow you to stun easier and give you some more Movement speed for roaming to other lanes if it is needed.
• Strength of Spirit mastery s4.png Meditation helps you to constantly heal your ADC in lane. Keep in mind though that it won't be enough for late game so mana items should still be built.
• Pickpocket mastery s3.png Bandit or Dangerous Game mastery 2016.png Dangerous Game are both useful. Pickpocket mastery s3.png Bandit is better when with a farming laner with late game carry potential like Caitlyn Caitlyn. Dangerous Game mastery 2016.png Dangerous Game is better when you go with an aggressive carry like Draven Draven, where the mastery can save you during the constant fights.
• Unyielding mastery s4.png Unyielding gives you 5% armor, so thanks to Bastion.png Bastion it can provide an extra 0.5 / 1% of your armor to your target.
• Your heal and shield will always apply to you, regardless of who you target. This makesAdaptive Armor mastery s4.png Runic Armor very useful for Taric.
• If going down the Ferocity tree, Expose Weakness mastery 2016.png Expose Weakness is a very good mastery for more aggressive lanes. It provides an extra 3% damage to the enemy from your ADC and maybe your jungler.
• Taric can use a variety of keystone masteries but works best with the Resolve tree keystones.
• As a Tank Support, Bond of Stone mastery 2016.png Bond of Stone is one of the best masteries to keep your ADC safe due to its damage reduction.
• In a more aggressive lane, Grasp of the Undying mastery 2016.png Grasp of the Undying gives higher damage as Taric naturally seeks to autoattack a lot anyway. It also acts as a source of sustain, which synergises well with his Starlight's Touch.png Starlight's Touch and Adaptive Armor mastery s4.png Runic Armor if you have it.
• If you are the only tank in the team, Strength of the Ages mastery 2016.png Strength of the Ages can be more effective late game. The heal it gives at maximum stacks adds even more sustain for Taric and amplifies his heal through its health scaling.
• Windspeaker's Blessing mastery 2016.png Windspeaker's Blessing is also viable on Taric, but you need to have mana during every fight which makes Bond of Stone mastery 2016.png Bond of Stone better for early game as you can easily go OOM due to the cost of Starlight's Touch.png Starlight's Touch. Still, Windspeaker's Blessing mastery 2016.png Windspeaker's Blessing + Chalice of Harmony item.png Chalice of Harmony can keep your mana topped up for you to cast your enhanced heals and shields.
Item Usage
• Taric functions best as a tanky protector/support. He is most often played as a support Bot lane, although Top Lane and Jungle are also decent roles. As such, items that grant armor, cooldown reduction, magic resist, health or mana should be prioritised over anything else.
• The Relic Shield item.png Relic Shield item line is the best choice for tank supports like Taric as it gives health and CDR. It also provides sustain and gold income and, when fully upgraded into Face of the Mountain item.png Face of the Mountain, a shield which works well with Taric's kit to save his allies.
• As with most supports, Taric should build a Sightstone item.png Sightstone / Eye of the Equinox item.png Eye of the Equinox and Oracle Alteration item.png Sweeping Lens to help control vision for his team.
• Armor is doubly important as it increases both Taric's Bastion.png tankiness and Bravado.png damage Dazzle.png output.
• Iceborn Gauntlet item.png Iceborn Gauntlet and Frozen Heart item.png Frozen Heart are both great options for armor. They both give armor, mana and CDR which are all great stats for Taric. The Spellblade effect on Iceborn also synergises well with Bravado.png Bravado and the attack speed slow on Frozen Heart is great at stopping attack speed reliant champions.
• Randuin's Omen item.png Randuin's Omen can be paired with Frozen Heart item.png Frozen Heart to cripple attack speed reliant champions. Its critical strike reduction passive also helps in dealing with champions that rely on critical strikes and its active provides another source of CC in the form of a slow. Active and Passives aside, the high health and armor values that this item provides also increases Taric raw tankiness. However, bear in mind that this item, for the most part, only benefits Taric, making it a somewhat selfish purchase.
• Thornmail item.png Thornmail's massive armor stat, along with its damage reflecting passive, makes it seem very appealing. Much like Randuin's Omen item.png Randuin's Omen however, it only benefits Taric. Also take into consideration that if playing as a support, it is unlikely that enemies will be focusing you over squshier targets which renders Thornmail item.png Thornmail's passive less effective.
• Dead Man's Plate item.png Dead Man's Plate is useful, offering a decent amount of armor and health along with a passive that gives movement speed and a slow. The passive movement speed helps with roaming and also counteracts Taric's weakness to kiting. The slow adds another source of CC albeit a rather mild one.
• If solo laning, Sunfire Cape item.png Sunfire Cape can cover Taric's lack of waveclear and add another damage source. Its jungle item counterpart, Juggernaut item.png Cinderhulk, does not provide armor although the health and AoE damage are useful nonetheless. This item is not recommended for support Taric as the passive might accidentally steal CS or push the wave unfavourably.
• Alternatively, Taric can build a mixture of attack speed, AD, crit and on-hit effects to synergize with Bravado.png Bravado's attack speed boost and damage. Although it can do very high damage, building this way is not recommended as Taric lacks an easy way to stick to targets and a lot of his kit will be less effective.
Countering
• Dazzle.png Dazzle is arguably Taric's most important basic spell. Without it, he will lack damage as he can't get close enough to use Bravado.png Bravado and a source of initiation or peel as it is his only source of CC, thus forcing him to play defensively. There are a few ways to avoid or negate the stun:
• Most Taric players max Dazzle.png Dazzle in lane and you definitely want to dodge it as Taric loses a lot of lane pressure if he misses it.
• As an ADC, playing carries with a dash like Vayne Vayne orLucian Lucian can help dodge Dazzle.png Dazzle.
• High range champions like Caitlyn Caitlyn can kite Taric with ease.
• As an almost purely melee champion, slowing Taric can cripple him almost as much as hard CC can.
• Don't underestimate Taric's damage in the early game. Alongside his Dazzle.png Dazzle, he has 100% attack speed and bonus damage from Bravado.png Bravado after using an ability; which technically means that all his abilities do damage, even if indirectly.
• Due to Bastion.png Bastion, and potentially Windspeaker's Blessing mastery 2016.png Windspeaker's Blessing, Taric can also make his allies deceptively tanky through a huge boost in resistances. His Starlight's Touch.png heals, Bastion.png shields,Cosmic Radiance.png invulnerablility, Face of the Mountain item.png items and Exhaust.png Summoner Spells should also be taken into account when deciding whether or not you or your team can kill Taric or his allies safely/easily.
• If Taric uses Dazzle.png Dazzle perpendicular to a wall, you can dodge it easily by going in the direction of the wall.
• Taric's Cosmic Radiance.png Cosmic Radiance does not make its targets immune to CC. Holding him or his allies down can waste the ability's duration and waste its effectiveness.
