Greetings fellow summoners, Today I'd like to take you to theory-town, where all the funkadelic magic happens. The following theory is based of the premise that for some marksmen it is better to have items that support their AoE then it is to have single target items that support their dueling.

I am talking about; Miss FortuneSquare Miss Fortune, SivirSquare Sivir and TwitchSquare Twitch specifically, with some offshoots to GravesSquare Graves and VarusSquare Varus. These champions all have at least 2 multiple target abilities that apply physical damage. These abilities have reasonable cooldowns and just long ones if they are ultiamtes.

For some of these champions it is allready accepted practice to choose The Black Cleaver item The Black Cleaver over Last Whisper item Last Whisper, seeing as it increases your already AoE focused damage. It also increases your durability a bit more which is nice.

Maths no-maths

When comparing Last Whisper item LW to The Black Cleaver item TBC the latter has +10% cdr +10AD, +200 hp and the same armor-penatration if the target has less then 100 armor. So situationally your skills deal more damage more often, and helps your other AD based teammates out with dealing their damage.

Nothing new under the sun just yet, however this part is where it gets different. Most AD builds choose between 3 items for utility; Statikk Shiv item Statikk Shiv, Trinity Force item Trinity Force and Phantom Dancer item Phantom Dancer, each for good reason. What I'm suggesting is to consider Youmuu's Ghostblade item Youmuu's Ghostblade instead!

But Fwhy!?

Well, mainly because of the extra armor penetration, cooldown reduction and active abillity. Sure the armor penetration doesn't stack with The Black Cleaver item TBC (which it should really -_-; ) but it's still an increase of armor omittance you can't disregard. And as for the cooldown reduction, well that just increases skill frequency.

Maths no-maths

Comparing the choices here comes down to 3 item comparisons, I'd rather just stick with the Goal of the items:

  • Statikk Shiv, it's good for people that lack farm and AoE capabailities, which really, doesn't apply to the champions in question.
  • Phantom Dancer, it's good for DPS on champions that auto attack a lot.
  • Trinity Force, its good for DPS on champions that alternate skills a lot.

Where does this leave Youmuu's Ghostblade? Well, it's good for champions that require CDR and have burst capabilities.

Full build

The full build would look something like:

Mad Hatter

Wondering if I still have all my marbles? Want to actually do the maths I neglet? Like to theory craft with me? Or just want to say "Hi"? Leave a comment!

On a side note, disregard how things currently are and consider a league where the only three flat armor penetration items in game do not have the *Unique* tag anymore, making TBC + YG a more viable option then it is now.
