Oonoki, the Heavy Wrestler is a custom champion in League of Legends.

GreenMoriyama here, with a new champion of Ionian origins. Being my first original champion that is not taken from TakaHann's Journal of Custom Champions, I wish to introduce to you also my first concept of a tank-primary champion, Oonoki. Inspired by random thoughts and the fact that Ionia doesn't have a champion that represents a heavy-weight/tanky martial-art (they have a tank tank, but he isn't heavy-weight, is he?), a sumo champion came to mind. Originally planned to be a joke champion concept earlier this year, I took time into making him a more serious concept when I missed my chance to post him (mostly due to the popularity of Izo and my busy time schedule around that time). He is one of two champions concept made from this intended April Fool's joke, with the other to come later on.

Now, behold the heavy-weight wrestler, hailing from the mountains of Ionia. With his power-filled slaps and robustly fat blubber (?), Oonoki Oonoki is just as steadfast as the mountainside he came from. -Green Moriyama

Abilities

Heavy Fat

GreenMoriyama Oonoki Passive

Any movement speed bonuses Oonoki receives are reduced by Error: Parameter '3' is not accepted.%. He is also 25% innately resistant to enemy Template:Cctip effects.

Thick Fat: For every Error: Parameter '3' is not accepted. bonus health, Oonoki gains 1 base armor and 0.25% additional resistance to enemy Template:Cctip effects.

Resistance to Template:Cctip effects caps at 50%.

Info
  • Airborne effects are affected differently by Heavy Fat.
  • Oonoki reaches maximum resistance at Error: Parameter '3' is not accepted. bonus health.
    • At this point, he would also have gained 100 base armor. Oonoki can still gain more armor from Heavy Fat; he will just have his airborne resistance gated.

Forceful Palm

GreenMoriyama Oonoki Q

Passive: Oonoki’s basic attacks applies stacks of Forceful Palm Forceful Palm, stacking up to three times for 5 seconds. At the third stack, Oonoki’s basic attacks begins to push back the target. This is not considered as a Template:Cctip back.

Whenever Oonoki knocks back an enemy into terrain, the enemy is stunned for a few seconds. This effect cannot occur on the same target more than once every few seconds.

Stun Duration: 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 / 2.25 / 2.5

On-Target Cooldown: 8 / 7.5 / 7 / 6.5 / 6

Active: After a brief channel, Oonoki pushes with his entire body, inflicting physical damage and Template:Cctip all enemies in a given direction to a fixed distance away from Oonoki. This also applies on-hit effects on enemy champions.

  • Physical Damage: 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+ 30% bonus AD) (+ 9 / 10.5 / 12 / 13.5 / 15% of Oonoki’s current health)

Enemies in the way of this knock back are also Template:Cctip for reduced damage.

  • Reduced Physical Damage: 25 / 55 / 85 / 115 / 145 (+ 20% bonus AD) (+ 4 / 5.5 / 7 / 8.5 / 10% of Oonoki’s current health)

Info
  • The pseudo-knock back on the passive is also in effect when the third stack is applied, not after it is applied.
  • Enemy champions who are in the way will not have on-hit effects applied to them.

Ritual Salt

GreenMoriyama Oonoki W

Active: Oonoki tosses ritual salt in a cone, dealing magic damage to enemies and marking them with Ritual Salt Ritual Salt for up to 8 seconds.

  • Magic Damage: 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 (+ 45% AP)

As long as one enemy is marked with Ritual Salt, Oonoki receives reduced damage from enemies without the mark. Damage reduction is based on how many enemies are marked, being more effective if enemy champions and large monsters are marked.

Damage reduction is capped at 10% from minions and small monsters, and at 35% total.

  • Normal Damage Reduction: 2%
  • Enhanced Damage Reduction: 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8%

Whenever an enemy marked by Ritual Salt dies, Uo'musou Beat Down’s cooldown is reduced by 1 second.

Info
  • Towers ignore the damage resistance.

Deceptive Clap

ChampionSquare

Passive: Attacking with basic attacks enemies marked by Forceful Palm Forceful Palm reduce Deceptive Clap’s cooldown by 1 second.

Active: Oonoki claps his hand towards the target direction, causing all enemies affected to turn towards Oonoki for a brief moment. Enemies already facing Oonoki will also be inflicted with a Template:Cctip that decays over 2.5 seconds.

  • Slow: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70%

Deceptive Clap resets Oonoki’s autoattack timer.

Info
  • No additional details.

Uo'muso Beat Down

ChampionSquare

Requires an enemy champion to be marked with Ritual Salt Ritual Salt.

Active: Oonoki charges at the target enemy champion, applying all stacks of Forceful Palm Forceful Palm as he Template:Cctip over 1 second to deal physical damage and Template:Cctip them for 5 seconds.

  • Physical Damage: 200 / 275 / 350 (+ 100% AD) (+ 15 / 20 / 25% of Oonoki's max Health)

Upon initiation, Oonoki summons a ring around the location, lasting for 10 seconds. If the target leaves the ring or dies before the end of the duration, Oonoki is healed over 5 seconds. The ring will disappear if Oonoki leaves the ring or dies, or when the heal is triggered.

  • Heal per second: 8 / 10 / 12% of Oonoki's missing Health

If the target enemy is facing Oonoki when he initiates this ability on them, the Template:Cctip duration is increased to 1.5 seconds, while all damage dealt by Oonoki to the target in the ring is increased by a percentage, including the initiation physical damage.

  • Bonus Damage: 15 / 20 / 25%

Info
  • For the duration of the suppression, Oonoki channels and is unable to take actions or voluntarily stop it prematurely.
  • The healing takes into consideration Oonoki's current missing health each second, becoming less effective each second.

Background

Lore

Main

A new martial art arises in Ionia that takes a step aside from the powerful weapons and fists of martial arts, focusing on a more robust art of shoving and weight-throwing. Its name? Uo'muso.

Conceived by a man who had trained from a young age upon the mountainside, Uo'muso is a wrestling art that focuses on forward momentum and maintaining one's balance. Instead of being shifty as a ninja or skilled with the blade as a sword-master, practitioners of Uo'muso believe the steady mountain can bear the blows.

Oonoki, the man who had introduced the fighting art to the Ionians, is a joyous man with an unending liking for noodles. Taking his weight as an advantage, he created the art of Uo'muso after much meditation and training. In the end though, he does not want the art to be fought over between disciples but be witnessed by many as an enjoyable art. To him, the open palms Uo'muso provides breath a cheerful life to those who practice its art.

"May everyone enjoy a bout that involves my Uo'muso fighting style! That's all I wish for."

Expanded Backstory

To train in his art of Uo'muso, Oonoki has gone through countless kinds of training, from swimming up harsh rivers to holding a large boulder on his back for an entire week.

One day, Oonoki challenged himself to bring down a large Zunan tree with only the strike of his palm. Some would laugh, and Oonoki did too. But he laughed because he believed in himself that his positive energy will bring the tree down. Thus, after having twenty hardy bowls of noodles, Oonoki began slapping the tree's trunk, one strike at a time.

On the first few days, some of the nearby villagers came to watch Oonoki pointlessly strike the tree. But their attention dwindled as less and less people visited the wrestler over the next week.

A month passed, now with no one watching at Oonoki's progress. The last person who witnessed him a week ago saw that he had made some imprints of his hand, but nothing more.

A few more months passed. One day, a young girl pranced along on her way to collect flowers. She saw the great Zunan tree nearby and wondered about Oonoki's progress. Thus she walked over, only to find that Oonoki was resting on his back. Yet, the tree hasn't been felled, so the girl wondered if Oonoki gave up on his endeavor. Yet, she knew that the great Oonoki was not a man who would ever give up, so she approached the tree. And as she touched the tree where Oonoki had left his mark, the tree began to creak. After all of his slapping, the tree had given way. But now, it was about to fall onto the girl. All she could do was cover her head in horror of her last moments in life.

Yet, the tree did not fall on top of her. As she looked up from her arms, she was gazing at the back of Oonoki. Protecting the girl, Oonoki now shouldered the humongous tree. After placing the fallen tree aside, he was thanked the girl and later congratulated by the villagers for his great feat.

"Just like how a thousand water drops can make a hole in a rock, a thousand determined slaps can fell a tall tree."

Trivia

  • Oonoki’s name, if rendered into Japanese, would be “The Giant Tree” (大ノ木), a reference to the tree he had trained upon.
  • Oonoki's character and theme is a homage to sumo wrestling. Each part of his kit and interactions are influenced by aspects of sumo.
    • Oonoki's looks (thus the images used) are influenced by Edmond Honda from the popular fighting series, Street Fighter, along with other sumo-based video game characters.
    • For abilities:
      • Heavy Fat refers to the weight/fat sumo wrestlers tend to carry in order to compete more effectively by having more inertia/momentum.
        • To note though, being simply heavier does not essentially guarantee a better chance at winning as some moves are more effective when used on larger/heavier opponents. It's also worthwhile to note that there have been successful sumo wrestlers who were not the heaviest in weight, one example being Wakanohana who was known as the lightest Yokozuna.
      • Forceful Palm is reference to the common sumo move "harite" (張り手; sticking hand) where a wrestler successively slaps his opponent quickly with open palms in a forward motion in order to push their enemies back.
      • Ritual Salt refers to the process of cleansing the ring before a bout by tossing ritual salt onto it.
      • Deceptive Clap is loosely based on a feint unconventionally used in sumo wrestling called "The Cat-Deceiver" (猫騙し; nekodamashi). Mostly used at the start of a bout, the wrestler claps in front of their opponent's face in an attempt to cause them to temporarily flinch with both action and sound.
      • Uo'muso Beat Down is based on the "Slap Down" (叩き込み; hatakikomi), one of the more common "winning moves" (決まり手; kimari-te) in sumo wrestling.
        • The ring it creates is based on the sumo ring, while the rule "if the enemy leaves the ring" is one of the most common victory methods: winning by forcing their opponent outside the ring.
    • Oonoki’s taunt action is based upon the shiko (四股), a ritualistic stomping exercise sumo wrestlers perform right before a match.
      • Although they stomp with incredible force after raising their legs as high as possible, to prevent hurting their knees, they are careful in not bringing down their leg at full force.
      • Example.
    • Oonoki's dance is a reference to a Japanese commercial that advertises the Japanese snack Pretz with a sumo theme to it. Watch it here.
  • The name of Oonoki's fighting style, "Uo'muso," is "osumou" (お相撲; the formal way of saying "sumo") spelled backwards.
  • Oonoki's name is not a reference to other fictional characters with the same name, such as Oonoki from the ninja-action series Naruto. As per Oonoki's creator, GreenMoriyama
  • Oonoki's joke is a reference to a occurence from Kung Fu Panda. See here.

Lore

  • Just like other Ionian champions, such as Yasuo Yasuo, Oonoki speaks a dialect of ancient Ionian that sounds similar to authentic, although part-flawed, Japanese.

Skins trivia

Blood Moon Oonoki

Taiko Drummer Oonoki

  • Unlike his other skins where he remains unarmed, Oonoki wields a set of Taiko drumming sticks called bachi (バチ).
    • In response, most of Oonoki's attacks feature a taiko-drum sound when striking an enemy.
  • His dance is replaced with a drumming performance.

Gentleman Oonoki

Championship Oonoki

  • This skin was made in celebration of the 20XX World Championship.
  • Oonoki wears a special rope (綱; tsuna) that is tied around a sumo wrestler's waist to signify that they hold the highest rank in sumo: the Yokozuna.
  • He shares this theme with Kalista Kalista, Riven Riven, Thresh Thresh and Shyvana Shyvana.

Ogre Oonoki

  • This skin is a reference to the Japanese oni, a youkai popularly found in Japanese literature and folklore. They are commonly depicted as hideous ogre-looking creatures with unnatural skin colors (most frequently blue or red).
  • This skin has some reference to Akuma, a major antagonist in the Street Fighter series who is known as "Great Demon" (豪鬼; gouki; lit. "Great Demon" or "Great Ogre").

Quotes

  • During his dance, Oonoki sings to the beat of the commercial the dance is based off of.
  • Oonoki's selection quote is directly taken from one of the common exclamations used in sumo wrestling, "dosukoi" (ドスコイ). It is usually used at the start of a bout, along with being a phrase similar to "fight on."
  • "I am not fat! I'm just pleasantly... plump." is a reference to Chouji Akimichi, a character from the ninja action manga series Naruto who says this line often.
