Prelude

This is a custom rework for RengarSquare Rengar, the Pridestalker.

RengarSquare O Rengar, we AhriSquare love him, but we also TeemoSquare hate him. On one side of the coin we often sort of find comfort in the fact that as a fully offensive RengarSquare Rengar, one can only do so much other than one-shotting isolated people. And yet, on the other side of the coin, most of us get super freakin' salty when it actually happens to us in person.

Now thematically speaking, the idea of RengarSquare Rengar as a hunter chewing up isolated squishies might sound a bit if not moderately reasonable, but in actuality, assassination attempts made by fully offensive RengarSquare Rengars more often than not only ends in one of the two following ways; one, RengarSquare Rengar successfully assassinates the isolated target, but the target itself is not given a reasonable amount of time required to even attempt at counterplaying, or two, RengarSquare Rengar fails the assassination and then either gets kited to death or forced to retreat, hence causing the RengarSquare Rengar player to feel useless (and often actually be useless).

Bluntly speaking now, the only way to resolve this would be to change RengarSquare Rengar into someone who goes into the heart of the battle and thrives on the presence of multiple enemies, instead of an unfun ball of fur which either eats enemies in < 1 second or gets eaten up by his enemies after failing an assassination in < 2 seconds.

So, how would you change RengarSquare Rengar into a Fighter, one may ask. Now obviously the answer isn't restricted to one line of some golden prophecy, but it would be wise to say that the stealth aspect of RengarSquare Rengar needs to be removed. Well that, and some if not all of the following.

  • Make Ferocity into a more interesting and interactive mechanic which dynamically changes to reward the player for being able to adapt to different situations.
  • Increase Ferocity gain when enemy champions are present to increase presence in teamfights.
  • Reduce Ferocity gain when enemy champions are not present to decrease sustain in lane.
  • Remove RengarSquare Rengar's double-casting so that his burst is now a foreign concept to him.
  • Increase Bonetooth Necklace The Bonetooth Necklace's significance to RengarSquare Rengar so that it is once again actually meaningful to RengarSquare Rengar's game-play instead of just being a thematic placeholder.
  • Give Unseen Predator Unseen Predator a meaningful mechanic so that players actually need to think before using it and are restricted from making absurd plays that makes RengarSquare Rengar look more like a frog than a hunter.
  • Increase RengarSquare Rengar's overall sustained damage.
  • Increase RengarSquare Rengar's overall utility.
  • Increase the amount of decision making RengarSquare Rengar's overall kit requires.

Well then, here it is. My take on turning RengarSquare Rengar into a real manly man.

Abilities

RengarSquare Rengar's abilities have no cost related to them and their uses are limited only by their respective cooldowns. Instead, he uses his secondary resource bar to display his unique mechanic: Ferocity.

RengarSquare Rengar generates Ferocity whenever he damages enemies with his abilities. Upon accumulating 5 Ferocity, RengarSquare Rengar gains access to an alternate set of basic abilities, which are modified versions of his basic abilities. The two ability-sets however share cooldowns and activating an empowered ability will consume 5 Ferocity. RengarSquare Rengar cannot have more than 5 Ferocity and his Ferocity will decay at a rate of 1 Ferocity per 2 seconds if he has not gained any in the last 5 seconds.

Ferocious Predator
Unseen Predator

Stalk: Whilst in brush or in stealth, Rengar Unseen Predator Stalks his foes, disabling his basic abilities and gaining 20 / 35 / 50 flat movement speed when moving towards enemy champions.

Kill: Whilst Unseen Predator Stalking, Rengar gains 600 / 650 / 700 bonus attack range and his basic attacks cause him to leap at his target upon cast. Casting a valid basic attack while Unseen Predator Stalking ends the effects of Unseen Predator Stalk, allowing Rengar to cast his basic abilities and granting him 30% / 40% / 50% bonus attack speed for 5 seconds, but disabling Unseen Predator Stalk until Rengar is out of combat. If Rengar casts a valid basic attack onto a target whom has vision of him while Unseen Predator Stalking, Rengar does not gain bonus attack speed, but will still leap to his target. Champion kills and assists immediately allow Rengar to Unseen Predator Stalk again.

Additionally, Rengar begins each game with a unique trinket, Bonetooth Necklace The Bonetooth Necklace.

Bonetooth Necklace
Bonetooth Necklace - Mementos of the Hunt: Rengar collects trophies from his fallen enemies, gaining bonus effects as well as enhancing his abilities based on how many trophies he has. Rengar gains one trophy for each champion kills and assists he scores.

Ability Details
Ferocious Predator is a self-buff with an on-hit effect dash component.


Savagery
COOLDOWN: 4 / 3
Savagery

Active: Rengar's next three basic attacks within 5 seconds deals bonus physical damage.

  • Bonus Physical Damage: 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 (+ 25% bonus AD)
  • Total Bonus Damage: 45 / 90 / 135 / 180 / 225 (+ 75% bonus AD)

Rengar generates 1 Ferocity for each strike of Savagery Savagery against an enemy champion and generates 1 Ferocity upon attacking three times during Savagery Savagery. Rengar cannot generate more than 3 Ferocity from one activation of Savagery Savagery.

Ferocious Savagery
COST: 5 Ferocity
COOLDOWN: 4 / 3
Savagery 2

Active: Rengar's next three basic attacks within 5 seconds deals 「 15 ~ 120 」「 15 - 120 (based on level) 」 (+ 50% bonus AD) bonus physical damage.

Additionally, Savagery 2 Ferocious Savagery grants Rengar 30% / 35% / 40% / 45% / 50% bonus attack speed for 5 seconds.

Rengar cannot generate any Ferocity from Savagery 2 Ferocious Savagery.

Ability Details
Savagery and Ferocious Savagery are self-targeted buffs that modifies Rengar's next 3 attacks.
  • The triggering attack will apply other on-hit effects and can critically strike as normal.
    • As with most on-hit physical damage, the bonus damage from Savagery and Ferocious Savagery will apply life steal.
    • Critical strikes will not benefit from the bonus damage from Savagery and Ferocious Savagery.
    • The bonus damage from Savagery and Ferocious Savagery will not affect structures.
    • Savagery and Ferocious Savagery's will be blocked by Counter Strike dodge, Riposte parry, Aegis Protection block and blind
  • Banshee&#039;s Veil item.png Spell shields will block the damage from one attack Savagery and Ferocious Savagery.

Additional Information:

  • Savagery and Ferocious Savagery resets Rengar's attack timer on cast.


Battle Roar

Battle Roar

Active: Rengar lets out a battle roar, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies and gaining bonus armor and magic resist for 4 seconds.

  • Magic Damage: 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 (+ 80% AP)
  • Bonus Armor & Magic Resistance: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30

Rengar gains additional armor and magic resist for the duration of Battle Roar Battle Roar for each enemy champion and large monster damage by Battle Roar Battle Roar.

  • Bonus Per Champion/Monster Hit: 5 / 7.5 / 10 / 12.5 / 15

Rengar generates 1 Ferocity for each enemy champion damaged by Battle Roar Battle Roar and generates 1 Ferocity for each kill Battle Roar Battle Roar scores. Rengar cannot generate more than 3 Ferocity from one activation of Battle Roar Battle Roar.

Ferocious Battle Roar
RANGE: 450
COST: 5 Ferocity
COOLDOWN: 8 / 6
Battle Roar 2

Active: Rengar lets out a battle roar, dealing 「 60 ~ 270 」「 60 - 270 (based on level) 」 (+ 80% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies and gaining bonus armor and magic resist for 4 seconds.

Additionally, Battle Roar 2 Ferocious Battle Roar heals Rengar for 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 + (5 × Rengar's level) health, increased by 5% for every 1% of Rengar's missing health, for up to 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 + (25 × Rengar's level) health.

Rengar cannot generate any Ferocity from Battle Roar 2 Ferocious Battle Roar.

Ability Details
Battle Roar and Ferocious Battle Roar are self-buff point blank area of effect abilities.

Additional Information:

  • The defense buffs of Battle Roar and Ferocious Battle Roar do not stack.


Bola Strike
RANGE: 900
COOLDOWN: 12 / 9
Bola Strike

Active: Rengar hurls a bola in a straight line skill shot which collides with the first two enemies struck, dealing physical damage and Slow icon slowing them for 2 seconds.

  • Physical Damage: 45 / 90 / 135 / 180 / 225 (+ 75% bonus AD)
  • Slow: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50%

Rengar generates 1 Ferocity for each enemy champion damaged by Bola Strike Bola Strike and generates 1 Ferocity for each kill Bola Strike Bola Strike scores. Rengar cannot generate more than 3 Ferocity from one activation of Bola Strike Bola Strike.

RANGE: 900
COST: 5 Ferocity
COOLDOWN: 12 / 9
Bola Strike 2

Active: Rengar hurls a bola in a straight line skill shot which collides with the first two enemies struck, dealing 「 45 - 360 」「 45 - 360 (based on level) 」 (+ 75% bonus AD) physical damage and Slow icon slowing them for 2 seconds.

Additionally, Bola Strike 2 Ferocious Bola Strike Root icon roots the first enemy hit for 1.25 / 1.375 / 1.5 / 1.625 / 1.75 seconds.

Rengar cannot generate any Ferocity from Bola Strike 2 Ferocious Bola Strike.

Ability Details
Bola Strike and Ferocious Bola Strike are both linear, colliding skill shots which damages up to two enemies.


Ferocious Furor
COOLDOWN: 40 / 30
Thrill of the Hunt

Active: Rengar activates his predatory instincts, consuming all his current Ferocity and gaining true sight of nearby enemy champions for 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 seconds or until Rengar damages an enemy with his basic attacks or abilities.

  • Vision Radius: 1500 / 2000 / 2500 / 3000

Whilst his predatory instincts are active, Rengar gains bonus movement speed when moving towards enemy champions and ignores unit collision. Enemies revealed by Thrill of the Hunt Ferocious Furor are alerted that Rengar is nearby if they do not have vision of him and he is less than 1000-units away.

  • Movement Speed: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30%

Additionally, activating Thrill of the Hunt Ferocious Furor immediately allows Rengar to Unseen Predator Stalk and causes his next basic ability within 5 seconds to be empowered. Successfully generating Ferocity within 10 seconds of the activation of Thrill of the Hunt Ferocious Furor causes Rengar to gain 30% bonus movement speed which decays over 5 seconds. Rengar begins each game with one rank in Thrill of the Hunt Ferocious Furor and can increase it at levels 6, 11 and 16.

Predator's Volition
COOLDOWN: 30
Requirement: Head of Kha'Zix
Unseen Threat

Active: Rengar activates his predatory instincts, consuming all his current Ferocity, gaining stealth after 1 second (delayed up to 3 seconds if taking damage) and true sight of enemy champions within 3000-units of Rengar for 10 seconds or until Rengar damages an enemy with his basic attacks or abilities.

Whilst his predatory instincts are active, Rengar gains 30% bonus movement speed when moving towards enemy champions and ignores unit collision. Enemies revealed by Unseen Threat Predator's Volition are alerted that Rengar is nearby if they do not have vision of him and he is less than 1000-units away.

Additionally, activating Unseen Threat Predator's Volition immediately allows Rengar to Unseen Predator Stalk and causes his next basic ability within 5 seconds to be empowered. Successfully generating Ferocity within 10 seconds of the activation of Unseen Threat Predator's Volition causes Rengar to gain 30% bonus movement speed which decays over 5 seconds.

Rengar may purchase different trinkets to enchant Bonetooth Necklace The Bonetooth Necklace with different effects.

Postlude

This rework took quite a while to do (began writing it up since 7th of Feb), so any ideas, recommendations or opinions on it would be appreciated. If you have any inquiries on how or why some certain mechanics were implemented (such as the restriction on passive or removal of stealth from Thrill of the Hunt Thrill of the Hunt), please read the Prelude before asking such questions, as the answer you're seeking for might just very well be there.

As for the new ability Unseen Threat Predator's Volition, just keep in mind that it's mostly there for flavor. Rarely does a game go on for so long that The Hunt is On! event occurs anyway (plus all the requirements that must be met for it to occur).
