Lore

(Lore by Amanda Cales/Gwenna.)
At age 15, Kiya became a queen. Her parents sacrificed themselves to end a war, and with the council of the Death-God,
, Kiya slowly began to rebuild what had been lost. But there was one who contested her rule. Kiya's cousin, a sorceress, challenged Kiya to a duel for the throne.Unused to combat, Kiya turned to Wondrous Scepter.
for aid. Thanks to his sage wisdom, Kiya quickly mastered her royal lineage's greatest treasure ... theOn the day of their duel, Kiya stood before her confident cousin. The crowd enthusiastically rooted for Kiya to win. She suddenly felt their fervor giving her strength. Kiya hexed her cousin, and the girl fell and screamed as her body contorted under Kiya’s magic. The crowd cheered. Kiya’s victory ushered in an era of peace and prosperity for her empire. Kiya wanted further advice from
, but he seemingly vanished without a trace, forcing Kiya to lead her subjects without his guidance. But as Kiya's rule blossomed, she became corrupted by her own avarice and power. She ordered her people to begin constructing monuments in her honor. However, not all were happy with these arrangements. Whispers of a rebellion began to circulate. Many citizens never got to see the wealth flowing into the city, remaining trapped within the slums while glorious statues of Kiya were erected outside their homes.
Some complained, begging Kiya for her understanding, but their efforts were in vain. Kiya dismissed them with a wave of her paw, calling them lazy dogs. Eventually, suspicious “accidents” befell work sites. Monuments were vandalized. Workers went missing. But Kiya remained apathetic, deciding instead to organize a festival to celebrate a neighboring territory’s incoming tribute.
During the festival, thousands cheered as Kiya’s procession arrived, and their queen-goddess stepped forward to address them. Suddenly, a ripple moved through the crowd. Dark, masked figures rushed at Kiya, leaping forward with knives in hand. Kiya screamed, shoving them back with sorcery that left them shivering on the ground. Furious, Kiya turned her wrath on the festival-goers. She rained curses upon the crowd.
A final figure stepped forward, slowly removing their mask. Kiya recognized the deformed, yet familiar face underneath the disguise. It was the same woman who Kiya had defeated in her youth. Calling herself the Rebel Queen, she encouraged Kiya’s people to depose their false goddess.
She pointed to those Kiya had struck down without cause. Many moved toward the Rebel Queen, inspired by her speech. Infuriated at their disloyalty, Kiya unleashed a torrent of spells onto the Rebel Queen.
Nothing happened.
Without the faith of her people, Kiya's magics died. Suddenly, she saw her own death reflected in the eyes of her once-loyal subjects. Kiya fled as the mob chased after her. then suddenly, summoning magic warped Kiya away to the blazing Shurima Desert. Staggering, Kiya warily gazed up to see
looming over her.had sensed Kiya's misguided ways for quite some time, and he predicted disaster for the naive ruler. Through special arrangements, Kiya was summoned to Runeterra so she could compete on the Fields of Justice. He explained to Kiya about the League of Legends and how she could regain her honor through glorious battles.
Kiya looked around, noticing the individuals Wondrous Scepter closely to her chest, she grinned with delight as she agreed to join the League.

Somber skies began blanketing across a strife-laden kingdom in a faraway world. All that remained among the rubble of a once-pristine city was a stubborn, yet proud ruler who refused to leave her empire behind. As night fell, the anthropomorphic creature named Kiya awoke from her mid-day slumber. Clenching her golden scepter with a shimmering crystal orb in hand, Kiya beckoned for servants to greet her out of habit. No one arrived, but this was to be expected.
Walking through the empty halls of the war-ravaged temple she called home, Kiya recalled the days where faithful followers would wait hand and foot to satisfy her every need and desire. A well-respected and loved queen, Kiya utilized her magical prowess to bless her citizens with good fortune and other wonderful enchantments, and her skills proved equally effective with punishing troublemakers through the use of crippling hexes.
However, even Kiya’s mighty sorcery proved insufficient to protect her devotees from disaster. Constant hostility from neighboring territories gradually took their toll over time, prompting many individuals to abandon Kiya’s side as the frequent skirmishes grew too fierce to handle. As Kiya blankly stared outside with the dread of loneliness filling her heart, powerful summoning magic suddenly warped her to the scorching sands of the Shurima Desert.
Before her eyes was
, the Curator of the Sands, along with a few nearby summoners who became instantly enamoured by Kiya’s divine-like beauty. welcomed his distant cousin to Runeterra and then explained why she was summoned. The League of Legends had heard tales of Kiya’s capabilities from at the Institute of War. After much debate, the High Council of Equity decided to contact about recruiting Kiya to participate on the Fields of Justice. With an opportunity to discard her past and start anew, Kiya gleefully agreed to join the League.“Those who worship me shall receive my favor. Those foolish enough to defy me shall receive my solemn wrath.”

Champion Overview
Video by CaptainPenguinGaming. Please note that this video was uploaded on 1/4/13. Some elements of Kiya may be tweaked/completely altered over time.
Wondrous Scepter Ability Notes
- Item-based innate passive.
- Kiya begins with a unique item called the Wondrous Scepter.
- The Wondrous Scepter cannot be sold.
- Kiya may upgrade this item up to two more times at the shop for a price.
- This item has a built-in, gold-generating aura passive that gives bonus gold to Kiya and other nearby allied champions whenever she scores a champion kill or assist.
- Kiya's orb has three color "settings," which are RED, BLUE and YELLOW.
- Kiya may "toggle" the color of her current orb by activating the item, for no mana cost and with a locked cooldown.
- The orb colors will always follow a sequence of RED, BLUE and YELLOW.
- The current orb setting affects Kiya's regular abilities in some fashion, altering their effects.
- Upgrading the Wondrous Scepter will improve the item's stats, as well as Kiya's regular abilities in some fashion.
- Visually, the Wondrous Scepter's orb on Kiya's 3-D model will change colors, allowing allies and enemies alike to see which orb setting Kiya currently has.
Wondrous Scepter Design Thoughts I wanted to give a real twist to Kiya's kit by giving her a unique item from the get-go. Not only that, I wanted to make the item an essential and interesting aspect of her skill-set. But because Kiya is geared as a support champion, however, I needed to keep in mind some elements.
Some of these elements included ...
- The Wondrous Scepter needed to justify its own item slot. Because item slots are so precious in this game, having something that takes up room means Kiya has less space to work with, especially because of what is expected of the support role. Support champs are expected to buy wards and other helpful gear to enhance/protect their teammates during a given match.
- To help balance things out, I made sure to give the item some bonuses. The upgrade options give you valuable stats and will also enhance Kiya's regular skills a bit. In other words, the idea was to provide incentives for the player without making them feel like they have a "useless" item on their character.
- In addition, I think most importantly, the Wondrous Scepter needed to be an OK item at all times, even if a player ends up not upgrading it right away (due to a lack of gold or if they choose to delay the upgrade). And I believe this is the case due to the item's orb-switching mechanic.
The orb-switching mechanic was something I came up with when I had a hard time trying to decide what kind of effects I wanted. Kiya needed a quirk that would differentiate her from other support characters in some way.
The RED, BLUE and YELLOW colors would entail different focuses. A skillful player would be able to adjust to a situation on the fly based on what was needed. Do you keep one color, use a skill and toggle into the next color? Will you just keep one color for a while before switching? There are lots of possibilities.
Some may call this orb-switching mechanic confusing, but I think it is pretty reasonable if you think about it. The mechanic grants Kiya a lot more options overall, yet it also demands some finesse from the player to change to the correct orb color at the right moment.
I wanted to have each orb choice provide something meaningful across the board, opening up the possibilities for a variety of tactics and functions.
Magnificent Pulse Ability Notes
- Line skill-shot that deals magic damage to hit enemies and applies a different effect based on Wondrous Scepter's current orb setting.
- This skill-shot's debuff is based on Kiya's orb setting (RED, BLUE or YELLOW) as she is firing out the skill-shot.
- The skill-shot applies magic damage first and then applies the debuff effect.
- The debuff can reduce armor, lower magic resistance or apply a Grievous Wounds.
- The skill-shot deals less damage after the initially hit foe.
- This skill can be blocked by spell shields (e.g. ).
- This ability will apply the weaker slow of .
- This skill affects enemies who are stealthed.
- This skill-shot does not grant vision as its projectile is flying out.
- This skill-shot makes a sound whenever it hits and debuffs a given enemy.
- This skill-shot comes out in a RED, BLUE or YELLOW color to distinguish the effects.
- The Wondrous Scepter upgrades will extend the debuff duration.
Magnificent Pulse Design Thoughts Skill-shots are a good way to add some additional technique to a champion's kit in my book. I believe players feel very accomplished when they can land a skill-shot with proper timing and targeting the right spot.
For this ability's case, I kept the skill-shot rather simple - it flies out in a straight line. It deals some magic damage and applies a debuff to all hit enemies, which makes it pretty easy to understand.
The real nuance is what the debuff will be, which is directly linked to Kiya's orb setting. Do you need to reduce armor, magic resistance or perhaps some healing reduction is in order?
I think making this ability a skill-shot justifies the ability's versatile effects. The one area I wanted to focus on was the laning phase, as Kiya is designed around the notion of being a support character. A common complaint about support champions is LoL is how many are "boring." With this ability, Kiya has the means to to attack from afar and will really give the player something to do at the start, livening up the lane action a bit.
Finally, Kiya will always have a chance as the game continues to make an impact with a clean hit from this skill-shot, particularly in team fights where enemies tend to clump up.
This is definitely a straightforward, yet potentially powerful skill-shot.
- Auto-attack/stack-based debuffing skill.
- Kiya's auto-attacks will deal bonus magic damage and will grant her a Fanatic Feline stack (up to a cap).
- Each Fanatic Fanatic Feline grants Kiya bonus movement speed for a few seconds.
- If Kiya attacks while at the stack cap, the stack duration is refreshed.
- Kiya may activate this ability to consume her current Fanatic Feline stacks.
- For each Fanatic Feline stack consumed, Kiya's next auto-attack will deal bonus magic damage and debuff her attack target with a different effect based on her current orb setting.
- Using the active effect resets Kiya's auto-attack cooldown.
- Kiya may consume the stacks while moving.
- Kiya's enhanced auto-attack will blind, silence or root her target.
- The duration of the debuff is linked to how many Fanatic Feline stacks Kiya consumed.
- Kiya may alter her current orb setting to affect the next attack after she has consumed the Fanatic Feline stacks.
- This ability’s passive effect is temporarily not in effect while this ability is on cooldown.
- The Fanatic Feline stacks, visually, will be floating "cat spirits" that circle around Kiya.
- These Fanatic Feline stacks will visually change color as Kiya changes her orb setting.
- When Kiya consumes these stacks, the "cat spirits" will all enter Kiya's scepter orb.
- This ability is blocked by spell shields (e.g. ).
- This ability will apply the stronger slow of .
- The Wondrous Scepter upgrades increase the magic damage dealt by this skill's active component.
Fanatic Feline Design Thoughts This ability is intended to push Kiya toward an "aggressive" play style during the laning phase. It really encourages frequent auto-attacks whenever possible, especially because Kiya deals bonus magic damage and earns Fanatic Feline stacks in the process.
The stacks grant Kiya some temporary movement speed to allow her more ease in adjusting her positioning a bit better. Most importantly, this ability has its active component to turn Kiya's next attack into something pretty substantial: a blind, a silence or a root. Depending on the orb setting, Kiya can really make the unlucky foe on the receiving end suffer a nasty debuff with extra magic damage to boot.
With this ability's active effect, Kiya can have many answers for a variety of situations and circumstances with the press of the orb-toggling button.
- AoE shield for allied champions (or Kiya) in a target area, which leaves behind an aura for a few seconds.
- Kiya may receive a shield as well if she happens to be in the target AoE.
- The shield lasts for a few seconds, or if the damage limit is reached.
- After shielding the target area, a floating ankh leaves behind an aura for a few seconds.
- The ankh radiates an aura that depends on the orb setting used (as it lights up the ground so allies and enemies know how far the aura's AoE encompasses).
- The aura affects allied champions and Kiya.
- The aura can provide (bonus attack damage), (bonus ability power) and (bonus armor and magic resistance).
- The ankh and aura's color is based on the orb setting.
- After using this ability, Kiya cannot change the ankh's aura by toggling through her current orb setting.
- This ability affects allied champions who are in stealth.
- The Wondrous Scepter upgrades will increase the aura's AoE.
Radiant Ankh Design Thoughts This ability is intended to be Kiya's team-oriented skill. By shielding target allied champions in an AoE (which can also include herself), Kiya can help pad them up a bit with some protection while also augmenting their strength with a useful aura.
Depending on the team composition, Kiya can switch to the right kind of aura to help further enhance the power of her allies. There is a lot of great things this ability can do, and it can definitely swing the odds in your favor if you use the appropriate aura at an opportune moment.
A very powerful skill, indeed.
Divine Queen/Mummified Servants Ability Notes
- Transformation ultimate with a separate, active component.
- When using Divine Queen, Kiya transforms into her demigoddess form, gaining bonus mana for the duration, and she may do this while moving.
- While in this demigoddess state, Kiya will heal herself and nearby allied champions in a gradual, AoE heal each second (half effect for allies).
- Kiya also gains the ability to use Mummified Servants as long as she is in the form of a Divine Queen.
- Mummified Servants begins with "an ammo" system.
- Each time Kiya uses Mummified Servants, for a mana cost but with no cooldown, she will use up this ammo and cannot restore this amount during a given duration of Divine Queen.
- When using Mummified Servants, Kiya will launch out mummified cats from her position as a point-click skill.
- The cats cling to their target for a few seconds, dealing magic damage each second, revealing them and slowing their target's movement speed.
- The cats can be blocked by spell shields (e.g. ).
- The cats will apply the weaker slow of .
- The cats will attack an enemy who is hidden by stealth.
- Only one cast of the cats will be allowed on a given target at a time.
- Kiya loses the ability to cast Mummified Servants when Divine Queen's duration ends.
- Cats who are still clinging to a foe after Divine Queen's duration ends will continue attacking their target, until their respective duration expires.
- Both the Divine Queen and Mummified Servants abilities do not receive special bonuses from the Wondrous Scepter.
Divine Queen/Mummified Servants Design Thoughts This ability was the hardest one to come up with for Kiya's kit. I went through so many ideas before coming up with what it currently is now.
I wanted to have two particular things with this ultimate: a transformation ultimate (to be akin to
and 's transformation ultimates) and mummified cats.To reflect Kiya's very different nature from her counterparts, I made it so she would gain mana instead of health because she is supposed to be a support/mage. The AoE heal aspect used to be a lot more complicated, but I simplified it into an easy-to-understand healing. Though the heal seems pretty weak, one needs to remember that the heal amount can potentially restore quite a bit of health over time.
For Mummified Servants, this aspect of the ultimate was added to give Kiya something to use while she transformed into a demigoddess. If you are able to get the cats to cling to the right targets, this can cause devastating results for the receiving end.
The "ammo" system allows the Kiya player to spread out the cats if necessary, especially if you need to attack different targets. Mummified Servants is meant to be a utility-based skill rather than being a big-damage ultimate.
Overall, I wanted to put together an ultimate that would stress the Egyptian/cat theme of Kiya's kit.(MUMMY CATS! Adorableness mixed with ferocious fury! RAWR! Art by PrincessDevin302.)
Champion Kit (Version B)
(Art by Shenkena.)
NOTE: So why is there a Version B for Kiya's kit? Well, for one thing, I made one because I could. I also am well aware that Version A has a lot of things going on, so Version B offers a cleaner version of some core elements, while still stressing the fact that Kiya is meant to be a support champion.
Wondrous Scepter Ability Notes
- Item-based innate passive.
- Kiya begins with a unique item called the Wondrous Scepter.
- The Wondrous Scepter cannot be sold.
- Upon gaining kills or assists, Kiya's unique item builds up "Fervor" stacks.
- Upon reaching certain thresholds of "Fervor," Kiya's unique item will upgrade on its own.
- Upgrading the Wondrous Scepter will improve the item's stats, as well as give Kiya a bonus of some sort.
- Visually, the Wondrous Scepter's orb on Kiya's 3-D model will change colors, allowing allies and enemies alike to see which orb setting Kiya currently has.
Wondrous Scepter Design Thoughts So for this version of the innate passive, I attempted to make the item more centered around Kiya's traits as a support in a simpler, yet dynamic fashion.
I kept one orb setting to be geared toward Kiya's aggressive focus as a support. I made the second orb setting to pertain to her warding duties. Finally, I made the last orb setting for the sole purpose of general utility.
I changed the item's upgrade aspect to a stack-based counter because trying to save up gold, while also being expected to buy other items and wards, may be tricky under normal circumstances. This also grants incentives to players who do particularly well during a given LoL match.
Basically, I really wanted a means to justify an item slot being used up from the get-go.
Magnificent Pulse Ability Notes
- Line skill-shot that deals magic damage to hit enemies and then lowers their armor and magic resistance by a percentage for a few seconds.
- Auto-attack/stack-based debuffing skill.
- Each Fanatic Fanatic Feline grants Kiya attack speed and ability power for a few seconds.
- If Kiya attacks while at the stack cap, the stack duration is refreshed.
- For each Fanatic Feline stack Kiya has as she uses this ability's active effect, Kiya's next auto-attack will deal bonus magic damage and debuff her attack target with a blind/silence effect.
- Using the active effect resets Kiya's auto-attack cooldown.
- The duration of the debuff is linked to how many Fanatic Feline stacks Kiya currently has.
- The Fanatic Feline stacks, visually, will be floating "cat spirits" that circle around Kiya.
- This ability is blocked by spell shields (e.g. ).
- This ability will apply the stronger slow of .
Fanatic Feline Design Thoughts Lots of auto-attacking is the key to playing Kiya correctly. She needs to be on the constant offensive to ensure that her opponents realize that she is a mean kitty who they should be wary of in more ways than one.
You need to attack frequently to maintain the stacks while also building up for a stronger blind/silence duration for this ability's active effect.
- The aura provides bonus life steal and spell vamp.
- This ability affects allied champions who are in stealth.
Radiant Ankh Design Thoughts Again, the name of the game is offense. The shielding effect will pad up Kiya and her allies' sturdiness, allowing them to trade damage better in exchanges.
The aura provides life steal and spell vamp to encourage Kiya and her allies to keep attacking. This way, Kiya and her allies have to earn back any lost HP by being on the offensive.
Divine Queen/Mummified Servants Ability Notes
- Transformation ultimate with a separate, active component.
- When using Divine Queen, Kiya transforms into her demigoddess form, gaining bonus mana and attack range for the duration, and she may do this while moving.
- Upon transformation, Kiya provides an AoE, crowd control-reduction buff that lasts for a few seconds.
- Kiya also gains the ability to use Mummified Servants as long as she is in the form of a Divine Queen.
- The cats cling to their target for a few seconds, dealing magic damage each second and slowing their target's movement speed and attack speed.
Divine Queen/Mummified Servants Design Thoughts I kept the transformation ultimate, but I modified elements. I kept the mana gain to help Kiya with sustaining her spells, but I added in an AoE, crowd control-warding effect to help against mass disables.
I changed the mummy cat aspect of the ultimate to be an AoE slow with a bit of a twist. Now, Kiya definitely has the means to make a real impact in team fights while still retaining her support-like feel.(Demigoddess form. Art by ajlotus.)
Champion Kit (Version C)
(Demigoddess form. Art by ajlotus.)
NOTE: I put together this version because I wanted to combine elements from A and B that I really liked. Kiya is still geared as a support champion with this skill-set.

Playing as Kiya
NOTE: This entire section was written for Version A of Kiya's kit.
(Kiya in a fancy outfit. Art by jnnfrklayer.)
I believe every champion for a respective role needs to serve a purpose. Besides for the sake of differentiation, a champion has to create an incentive for players to consider them among LoL's ever-increasing roster size. I think Kiya's greatest perk will be her versatility as a support character, especially with what she brings to the table. She can fit into a variety of team compositions and can be implemented into many strategies.
During the early game, Kiya should be played aggressively with an emphasis on lots of damage trades with her lane opponents. She should constantly be in her lane opponents' faces by constantly harassing them from afar. In addition, I think Kiya could potentially open up new lane possibilities with unique lane partners (e.g. having a lane with her teamed up with your team's mage).
In terms of support duties, Kiya would still need to focus on things like warding and whatnot, but this is just part of the job description. When it comes to team fights, Kiya could contribute a lot by weakening the opposing side while also augmenting the strength of her allies.
Overall, I think Kiya would be a competent and excellent support character for her team's lineup. Her orb-switching mechanic grants her a lot of power and choices to defeat the enemy team. Finally, who doesn't like catgirls? >^..^<
Kiya would benefit from pretty standard support gear as a game progresses. In addition, a player should also consider upgrading the Wondrous Scepter at some point if they can afford it.
- Be very mindful of Kiya's current Wondrous Scepter orb setting. Each orb setting alters Kiya's regular abilities in some fashion, so make sure you have the appropriate orb for the right situation.
- Though Kiya's abilities are versatile, her skills still require good timing on your part. Always make sure you have allied champions nearby who can do a followup after you use an ability.
- Try to aim Magnificent Pulse to hit as many enemies as possible, maximizing the negative effect for your unlucky foes.
- You can always switch the Wondrous Scepter orb setting to change the debuff effect for Fanatic Feline as you collect stacks.
- Try to shield many allied champions at once with Radiant Ankh.
- Divine Queen is an ideal skill to use when a team fight starts. Be sure to put yourself in a good position to help aid your allies with your AoE, healing aura.
- Make use of Mummified Servants to tip the scales in a team fight.
- Pay close attention to Kiya's current Wondrous Scepter orb setting. It will give you a clue as to what Kiya's next skill can do to you, though keep in mind she could easily switch her orb setting on the fly.
- Kiya's skills have long cooldowns, leaving her vulnerable for your counterattacks.
- Take note that Kiya may fire her Magnificent Pulse at you at any point. Because the projectile travels in a line, you can always try to dodge the ability.
- Always be wary of the color of Kiya's Wondrous Scepter orb setting as she builds stacks for Fanatic Feline. As she achieves the maximum number of stacks, Kiya will more likely unleash her debuff effect on her next auto-attack.
- If possible, avoid fighting in or around Radiant Ankh's visible AoE. The enemy champions in this AoE will be powered up by the aura.
- When Kiya is in her Divine Queen form, it is a good idea to try focusing down Kiya. Otherwise, she will continually restore her allies' health with her AoE heal.
- Watch out for Kiya's Mummified Servants ability when Kiya transforms into her Divine Queen form. These cats will severely hinder your movement speed if they manage to get their claws on you.

Critical Attack Animation: Kiya fires a slightly larger energy sphere at her target, again depending on the color of her current orb.
Idle Animation: Kiya places her scepter behind her back as she examines her left hand’s nails, looking a bit bored.
Recall Animation: Kiya clenches her scepter near her heart as she attempts to focus.
Taunt Animation: Kiya raises her scepter. The scepter's orb begins to pulse magically in a menacing manner.
Joke Animation: Kiya does a cute and silly pose, teasing everyone around her.
Death Animation: Kiya falls to the ground, shattering her scepter's orb.
NOTE: I would love to have an animation of Kiya's dance done. If someone with animation skills would like to attempt doing so, you would be deemed forever awesome.
Dance: Nyan Nyan Dance.
Or ...
Nekomimi Switch would also be a good dance as well to consider. >^..^<

Voice
(First art by Utsu. Second art by Ennaived.)
Once again, Imoristar has provided her voice to this project. She has breathed life into so many of my LoL champion ideas, elevating the concepts to a whole new level. She is such a ☆ in more ways than one!
Imoristar loves to sing and voice act. The first Kiya was how she and I became friends, actually. I will always admire her spirit and enthusiasm to try her best every day. Please show your support by subscribing to her YouTube channel.

Very Charming
(Special thanks to Stawry from Weague of Wegends for making a one-of-a-kind charm of Kiya, which she forms, bakes and glazes herself. She runs an awesome LoL-themed Tumblr and also sells other LoL charms. Be sure to check out her work!)
The first Kiya was an important creation for me because it was how I came across Imoristar when I was looking for someone to voice my character.
Had I not created the first version of Kiya, I probably would not have found Imoristar's YouTube channel ... let alone make friends with such a kindhearted and amazing person.
The Kiya charm came out so cute, don't you think?
Imoristar has received her unique gift and absolutely loves it.
May it bring her great fortune. :)
