Very important note: All numbers can be changed. The concept, above all else, is key.

Sylphie, the Butterfly Faerie is a custom champion for League of Legends.
As always, I am extremely appreciative of everyone who helps me out with my custom champ ideas. Without these wonderful individuals pitching in their respective talents, I would not have been able to put together these projects of mine with the same amount of passion and quality I always attempt to achieve.
To everyone who helped out with this project, THANK YOU! - Nhan-Fiction

Deep within the Kumungu Jungle, untouched by most humans, lives a small population of all-female winged creatures known as butterfly faeries - experts in using Mother Nature's magic, especially when it involves manipulating flowers. Commonly regarded as a mere fairy tale, the few explorers who actually met these elusive creatures just never end up in peace, as they're always the victims of their pranks. Their pranks vary in magnitude, the lightest involves getting lost in the jungle, running in circles for hours. The worst involves seeing hallucinations, confusing a pack of wild hungry wolves for an innocent group of deer.
One particular butterfly faerie stood out from the rest. Sylphie, who is notorious for her creativity in scheming much more dangerous pranks, even using her own people as test subjects occasionally, is generally disliked by the rest of her sisterhood. Yet, she is a valuable, irremovable asset to her sisters, precisely because of her creativity, as whatever danger arrives to threatens their existence, Sylphie never fails to come up with a plan to thwart it, with entertaining results.
However, Slyphie is bored of her life. She hungers for an adventure, a challenge, perhaps a much more powerful creature that she can toy with and storm up a prank on, rather than just ordinary humans. Hence, after scheming down a versatile array of trap blueprints for her sisters, she bade farewell to the matriarch leader and left her home, promising to return and tell tales of her journey.
And so, the mischievous adventures of Sylphie and her cunning wit begins, as she seeks out for more ideas of deceit and trickery, more magic to invent and experiment, and more test subjects that could really tickle her funny bone.

- Self-buffing innate passive.
- Sylphie triggers the Shifty Sprite innate passive whenever she uses an ability (item actives do not work).
- Shifty Sprite grants bonus movement speed, the ability to pass through units and a significant reduction in model size for a few seconds when it triggers.
- When Sylphie shrinks herself with Shifty Sprite, she becomes smaller in unit size (making her more difficult to see) and becomes trickier to click on as well.
- Using additional abilities while Shifty Sprite is in effect will refresh the duration.
- The speed bonus values increase as Sylphie levels up at certain points.
Shifty Sprite Design Thoughts When I thought about an innate that would be appropriate for Sylphie's concept, I pictured the deceptive, mischievous nature that faeries can possess.
Shifty Sprite plays off this idea by granting her a mini, -like effect with a twist.
Three powerful bonuses occur when Shifty Sprite takes effect: a speed boost, the power to move through units and a reduction in model size triggers for a few seconds whenever Sylphie casts an ability.
The extra speed grants Sylphie the oomph she needs to engage, chase, reposition and escape in a variety of situations. Being able to move through units will aid her in utilizing the faster movement speed with less disruptions.
Finally, the reduction in model size is something that would be really different for the game. There are many abilities that can make your champion larger, such as
's or 's , but there are not that many abilities that do the opposite effect of shrinking your champion's model size on purpose.Sure, some may question the self-shrinking mechanic of Shifty Sprite, but I believe the strategic capabilities warrant extra thought.
For instance, think about how much harder it would be to target Sylphie if she shrunk herself in the middle of a team fight. Consider how elusive Sylphie could become if she suddenly became a smaller target for skill-shots, abilities and just general clicking for basic attacks.
Would it be annoying? Potentially. But this is the whole point of this innate: to make Sylphie a pest for her opponents.
Butterfly Kisses Ability Notes
- Line-to-cone, area-of-effect nuke with debuffs.
- The ability shoots out as a narrow line at first, but then it expands its area of effect into a cone shape as it reaches its maximum range.
- This ability does not grant vision as the butterflies are flying out, but a sound will be heard as enemies are being hit.
- This ability can hit multiple enemies.
- Butterfly Kisses will deal magic damage over a few seconds, shred magic resistance for a few seconds and force hit enemy champions to laugh.
- Enemies champs who laugh from this ability will just have their laughing audio files playing for a few seconds, but they can still take regular actions. Their laughs, however, can be heard in fog of war/bushes to give away which champ they are without actually revealing them visually.
- Shifty Sprite triggers when this ability is used.
- This ability affects enemies in stealth.
- This ability's active effect is blocked by spell shields, such as from .
- will apply the weaker slow with this ability.
Butterfly Kisses Design Thoughts I wanted Sylphie to have a long-range attack to make her a bit more versatile as a whole. Butterfly Kisses gives Sylphie something she can use afar if necessary, plus hitting people with the swarm of butterflies will debuff foes while dealing magic damage to them.
This nuke can be used as a harassing/poking tool against enemy champions, and it would be useful for scouting. The expanding cone's area of effect is something to make enemies a bit more wary of the butterfly swarm as Sylphie shoots them out.
The induced-laugh debuff is something different and unique, plus it fits with the ability's concept. Making enemy champions laugh can help give their location without visually revealing them. For example, you could shoot out Butterfly Kisses into a bush and figure out it is a when you hear his laugh.
In addition, an important aspect for any mage champion is the ability to farm minions well with their abilities. Butterfly Kisses will be able to clear a lot of minion waves rather quickly with enough ability power, ensuring Sylphie gets enough gold to be useful for her allies.
- Passive, stack-based crowd control reducer with an area-of-effect nuke that deals magic damage and silences.
- The passive effect of Sparkly Twirl grants a stack of Momentum each second while Sylphie is moving.
- Each Momentum stack provides crowd control reduction (reduces the effects of stuns, slows, taunts, fears, silences, blinds and immobilizes).
- Sylphie loses a Momentum stack every time she is attacked by an enemy champion's basic attack and/or she stops moving for a certain amount of time.
- The active effect deals magic damage in a ring, dealing reduced damaged to foes on the outer edge.
- Enemies damaged by this active effect are silenced for a few seconds.
- The active effect of this ability can be used while moving.
- Shifty Sprite triggers when this ability is used.
- This ability affects enemies in stealth.
- This ability's active effect is blocked by spell shields, such as from .
- will apply the weaker slow with this ability.
Sparkly Twirl Design Thoughts This ability has two elements. The first is a passive component to encourage Sylphie players to be constantly on the move, which builds up Momentum stacks that provide crowd control reduction.
This crowd control reduction's purpose is to help Sylphie wade through the enemy team's disables, allowing Sylphie to be a bit more relentless with her attacks if need be.
There is a counter-play option as well. Enemy champions can knock off some of Sylphie's Momentum stacks with their basic attacks, plus Sylphie will naturally lose Momentum stacks over time if she stands idle for too long.
In regards to its active effect, Sparkly Twirl deals magic damage to surrounding foes in a ring and silences them, but it deals less damage if enemies are on the outer edge of the ring.
This is to encourage Sylphie players to get closer to enemies for the maximum effect, while opening up the possibility for opponents to counterattack against Sylphie and punish her attack.
The silence component is to mess with the enemy champions' spell-casting and combos. Most importantly, Sylphie can use this active effect while moving to help maintain and add toward her Momentum stacks.
Faerie Rush/Confuse Ability Notes
- Line dash with a slow, clone-creation aspect with a warping root option.
- Sylphie first dashes in a line from her current position.
- Sylphie may dash over walls and other obstacles.
- Sylphie may be stopped in mid-dash by certain abilities and disables.
- Each foe hit by Sylphie as she dashes will suffer magic damage, have their movement speed slowed and they will be debuffed with Dizzy for a few seconds.
- Each enemy champion hit by this dash will spawn a sprite clone of Sylphie beside them, each lasting a few seconds.
- A sprite clone is immobile and does not attack or take actions.
- A sprite clone can be targeted and affected by attacks and champion abilities.
- If a sprite clone is killed by an enemy champion, they will receive a bit of gold.
- After using Faerie Rush, Sylphie can then cast Confuse in the next few seconds.
- Confuse can only be used on enemies with the Dizzy debuff (as in foes Sylphie hit during her initial dash).
- Sylphie will warp to a foe marked with Dizzy, triggering Confuse.
- Confuse will cause Sylphie to damage a target foe and will root them for a bit.
- As Sylphie is using Confuse, she will warp all nearby sprite clones created by Faerie Rush to surround her target foe.
- The target foe will also be flipped around to face the opposite direction as Sylphie warps to them with Confuse.
- Faerie Rush, but it will apply the stronger slow with Confuse. will apply the weaker slow with
- These abilities are blocked by spell shields, such as from .
- Both of these abilities will affect enemies in stealth.
- Shifty Sprite triggers when these abilities are used.
Faerie Rush/Confuse Design Thoughts A gap closer is extremely useful on a mage/assassin-type character like Sylphie.
I wanted Sylphie to have a means to get closer to her enemies by allowing her to rush toward her enemies. The rush deals magic damage to hit foes while slowing them for a bit. Also, sprite clones of Sylphie spawn next to hit enemy champions, lasting a few seconds.
These sprite clones play off the deception aspect of Sylphie's character. The clones can be targeted and attacked, and they are meant to cause confusion for your enemies.
Faerie Rush can also as an escape option for Sylphie if she really needs it.
Confuse is a second option that Sylphie can utilize after using Faerie Rush. It is a point-click root that deals magic damage, and it drags all nearby Sylphie sprite clones toward the rooted target.
However, Sylphie may only use Confuse on a target who was marked as Dizzy from Faerie Rush for balance issues. It is to force Sylphie to take the risk of not only the initial charging in, but it would also allow enemies to punish Sylphie if she decides to root a target.
Bloomsday/Flower Power Ability Notes
- Area-of-effect, enhancing speed boost and more.
- Sylphie creates a large area of flowers for a couple of seconds.
- Sylphie's Shifty Sprite innate is always in effect in this field of flowers.
- Allied champions who enter this field of flowers will gain bonus movement speed and will ignore unit collision.
- Flower Power is usable as long as Bloomsday is in effect.
- Flower Power creates a new patch of Bloomsday flowers in front of Sylphie, which can be used while she is moving.
- Flower Power deals magic damage and slows the movement speed of hit enemies.
- Flower Power also causes Sylphie to fade into stealth for a bit if she hits an enemy champion with this ability.
- The flowers created by Flower Power count as Bloomsday field.
- The Bloomsday field always remains for its full duration after it is used, meaning the flowers will not just disappear if Sylphie dies during a given duration.
- Flower Power. will apply the weaker slow with
- Flower Power is blocked by spell shields, such as from .
- Flower Power can affect enemies in stealth.
Bloomsday/Flower Power Design Thoughts Bloomsday is Sylphie's impact ultimate that is supposed to be the huge game-changer when used. Sylphie causes a large patch of flowers to bloom.
Sylphie's Shifty Sprite is always in effect in this field of flowers, plus allied champions who run through the flowers gain movement speed and ignore unit collision as well.
Flower Power can be used by Sylphie as long as the duration of Bloomsday is in effect.
Flower Power can be used by Sylphie while moving. The move causes new flowers to bloom in front of Sylphie, dealing magic damage, slowing hit enemies and creating new patches of flowers for Bloomsday.
If Sylphie hits an enemy champion with Flower Power, Sylphie will fade into stealth instantly for a brief moment.
This ultimate, as a whole, is supposed to give Sylphie an extremely significant way of making huge plays when the ult is triggered. It's very theme appropriate, and it allows Sylphie to contribute to her team in a meaningful manner.(Art by Deene1.)
Champion Kit (Version B)[]
(Skin Concept - "Hextech Sylphie (alternate pose)." Art by k1lleet.)
NOTE: I put together a quick "Version B" of Sylphie's kit because I do realize that sometimes I get a bit overzealous with mechanics. This version basically "nerfs" a lot of elements of the previous Sylphie to be more balanced and fair.
Nonetheless, I still tried to keep the design reasonable so that Sylphie could still be a decent champ as a whole with the skill-set below.
(Art by Slurpiees.)
Playing as Sylphie[]
(Art by The-Cannie.)
NOTE: The sections below were written for "Version A" of Sylphie's skill kit.
Sylphie is designed as a deceptive mage/assassin character. Armed with effective means to strike from afar as well as up close and personal, Sylphie's play style is meant to catch people off-guard.
Annoying foes with her swift speed and versatility would be two important keys to playing Sylphie properly. For instance, taking advantage of Shifty Sprite can allow Sylphie to be one step ahead of her opponents constantly.
Because of her frail defenses, playing too recklessly would be disastrous for Sylphie. Instead, well-timed attacks and smart decisions would be ideal.
So why should people consider picking Sylphie over other mages? Well, for one thing, Sylphie is a cute butterfly faerie. If this is not enough of an incentive alone, Sylphie would appeal to mage players who enjoy being disruptive against the opposing team. After all, Sylphie was intended to be a pest toward her enemies.
Sylphie offers a truly high-risk, yet rewarding play style that encourages intelligent tactics and great use of her various techniques.
Sylphie should be built with a focus on augmenting her mage/assassin capabilities. Furthermore, padding up her naturally frail defenses should be considered as well.
- Sylphie is naturally a speed demon. Timing your abilities in conjunction with the bonuses from Shifty Sprite can give you the slight edge for both offense and defense.
- Butterfly Kisses has a superb area of effect, making it suitable for nuking and poking purposes.
- Sparkly Twirl is great for disrupting enemy abilities with its silencing area of effect.
- Faerie Rush is an excellent gap closer. In addition, the Confuse sub-ability is extremely powerful as a single-target disable.
- Bloomsday covers a large area of effect. It also provides benefits for allied champions, granting your teammates a significant speed boost and allows them to ignore unit collision.
- Flower Power fades Sylphie into stealth instantly whenever she hits an enemy champion, further enhancing Sylphie's elusive capabilities.
Tips for Playing against Sylphie
- Though quick and evasive, Sylphie is a fragile champion with low defenses. Sylphie also relies heavily on her Shifty Sprite innate passive, so take advantage of any opportunity to attack Sylphie.
- The area of effect of Butterfly Kisses spreads out into a wide cone the farther it travels, so be prepared to dodge.
- Sparkly Twirl deals more damage the closer Sylphie is to her surrounding enemies, meaning Sylphie becomes a vulnerable target if she wants to do maximum damage with this ability.
- Faerie Rush creates clones whenever Sylphie glides through an enemy champion. Always keep track of where the real Sylphie is.
- Confuse can only be used on an enemy initially hit by Faerie Rush.
- Bloomsday blankets an area with flowers with powerful bonuses for Sylphie and her allies. Be extra wary of fighting on the flowers.
- Flower Power can create flowers with that extend the territory of Bloomsday, so take note of this fact.
