With Season 4 of League of Legends already past its halfway mark, I am still puzzled and quite frankly annoyed that Riot Games has not addressed the number of bans in Draft Pick. To this date, the roster has roughly 120 champs. That's a lot of characters.
And yet, for some odd reason, Draft Pick only has six bans total for both sides to work with, which is a paltry number that doesn't even do anything.
Allow me to toss out a bunch of champion names who would you probably would see banned when playing Draft Pick or a Ranked Solo/Duo game.
Champion Ban Examples
All of these champions are respectively good bans in this current meta in terms of popularity and power. Of course, the name of the game is to PICK whomever deemed Flavor of the Month (FotM) at the time who happened to survive the banning phase. Even if the mode had 50+ bans, this principle will still be in full force.
My gripe is the number of bans itself and how it leaves little to almost nonexistent flexibility in terms of banning champions. FotM champs are often the most commonly banned for their huge impact potential, but this bumps out a lot of other banning opportunities.
The example I always toss it out is maybe you want to ban Janna because you are a Fiddlesticks main. A decent Janna player can make Fiddlesticks completely useless, but no one in their right mind will want to ban Janna when FotM champs are so darn important to ban/pick first.
Basically, I think the banning phase at the moment is rather moot. Riot could honestly disable it and just lock out a bunch of constantly banned champs like Master Yi and it would accomplish the same result. Incredibly lame, don't you think?
If Riot could magically adjust the ban total to eight bans (but no more than 10) in a patch at some point, I would be super happy. Like everyone else, I have a bunch of champs I would love to ban like Lee Sin, but I feel compelled at the captain slot to ban the same crap over and over again. It's entirely dull and not dynamic.
I know we all had to wait for Season 2 until Riot Games upped the ban count from four (gosh, that banning phase in Season 1 was absurdly pointless) to six. I just think it's weird how Season 4 hasn't increased the ban count yet.
