Going smiteless

It's something that I keep seeing, and it's something I do myself quite a bit if I think I can get away with it. But I keep seeing players go smiteless for no reason. They'll go smiteless at blue, and then...continue on their merry way, going through wolves, wraiths, and then using Smite at Red.

Is it just me, or is this completely bonkers? Whenever I use smite at blue, it's usually up again by the time I get to red, even with champs with outrageous clear times like Elise. I know not many people remember that Mastermind is a mastery, but even without that, the cooldown of Smite is really, really short. Not using it when it's needed just seems foolish to me.

I only go smiteless if I intend to steal Red right after Blue. The experience buffs t…

Varus is not a normal AD carry

Something that's been bothering me is the idea that is your standard, everyday AD carry. You buy a , you buy an , and you call it a night.

And that's... that's so abysmally wrong, and shows such a neglect of knowledge about the champ that it makes me cry a little. Every time I see a Varus player build like a  or a , I die a little inside, because these people don't seem to understand what Varus does in the slightest.

Let's do a little overview, shall we?

A relatively standard Carry ability. He gets bonus attack speed for last hitting. Makes sense, and while not exactly the most flavorful of his abilities, gets the job done. Nothing really special here.

Varus starts drawing back his next shot, gradually increasing its range and damage. Maximu…

The crit stacking meta: Why this needs to stop

Something I keep seeing done in games is the idea that every AD carry should, immediately, before any other items, build as many critical chance items as they can. Phantom Dancer, Statikk Shiv, etc. Immediately. No attack damage items at all.

This...isn't a good idea. 100% crit chance with no bonus attack damage basically just grants attack damage equal to 100% of the user's base attack damage, with one catch: This bonus attack damage doesn't effect skills. This means Quinn's Harrier, Draven's Spinning Axes, Ashe's Volley, etc. all become somewhat useless, and especially during the build process, the inconsistant damage means players actually building AD and Lifesteal are not only going to out-damage them in laning skirmishes, but outsustai…
