Sona Rework Concept


This concept completely revolves around the idea of the community which is to shift her into a "spell-order" based mage, similar to the gameplay of Invoker from DotA. Though I've personally never played DotA before, I'm doing my best to create an idea that doesn't stray too far from what it's supposed to be.

In this concept, she might become more of a jack-of-all-trades champion, due to her songs having variety (ten songs?).

Circle of Melody will allow Sona to retain her identity as an aura support, and is similar to her old gameplay, only that it rotates without the constant use of her abilities. To play around this, Sona and her allies will have to time their engages and trades to have an advantage in the situation, like engaging in a trade as soon as the first string aura comes up, and escaping and reducing damage taken at the same time as soon as the second string aura comes up.

Also, to hinder too much fast spamming, and to stop her from changing rotations every now and then, she will have a shared cooldown on her basic abilities when casting the maximum amount in a short period of time. This concept is made for fun, so some things can be random and far-fetched. I also didn't bother to give numbers because I'm not that familiar with them. Anyways, I will freely accept any kind of feedback, and will change whatever strays too far from the concept or what doesn't fit her. Thanks!

Circle of Melody
RANGE: 400
Song of Celerity

Aura: Sona memorizes her last strummed strings and strums them in a constant rotation for 1 second per string. Each rotation will have a delay of X seconds between them. Every strum will cause an aura of sound to emerge, affecting units inside. Every string has a different effect, and will have negative effects on enemies.

Fixed Tempo: After a maximum amount of strums, her abilities will go on a constant shared cooldown. This will occur if the spellcasts have been done in X seconds.

COST: 10/10/10/20/20 Mana
STATIC COOLDOWN: 0.1
Hymn of Valor

Active: Sona will strum her first string, which makes her next basic attack deal bonus magic damage. Further strums will increase the bonus damage.

Aura: Sona and her allied champions inside the aura will receive bonus attack damage and ability power.


String of the Heart
COST: 10/10/10/20/20 Mana
STATIC COOLDOWN: 0.1
Aria of Perseverance

Active: Sona will strum her second string, which enables her basic attack to be targeted at allies. If targeting an ally, Sona will heal the ally, and if targeting an enemy, Sona is shielded instead. Further strums will increase heal and shield power.

Aura: Sona and her allied champions inside the aura will receive bonus armor and magic resist.


String of the Body
COST: 10/10/10/20/20 Mana
STATIC COOLDOWN: 0.1
Power Chord

Active: Sona strums her third string, which makes her next basic attack slow an enemy. Further strums will increase the strength of the slow.

Aura: Sona and allied champions inside the aura will receive bonus attack and movement speed.


Her ult will be having two versions, depending on which is best, where one is tiered by effectiveness and the other revolving only around 3 strums per song. This was suggested by Frankenheimer.

Song of the Maven
COST: 100/120/140/160/180 Mana

Active: Sona gazes at her libretto, infusing her Etwahl with magic. Selected strum orders will play a song, which has different effects depending on the song played. Sona has a total of ten songs, and belong to four different tiers. The songs will be tiered depending on the number of strums needed to be played. Also, the songs will have a separate cooldown, and will be visible in her status bar above the abilities.

  • Counted Strums: 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

Reactivation: Sona will play the song that corresponds with the strings strummed.

Tier I songs are all linear pass-through skillshots, and need 3 ordered strums to play. They are playable at all levels.

Tier II songs are all cone skillshots, and need 4 ordered strums to play. They are playable when her ultimate is at level 2.

Tier III songs are all small AoE abilities, channel for 2 seconds before cast, and require 5 ordered strums to play. They are playable when her ultimate is at level 3.
