• It was initially thought Zyra would have a stealth ability (both her and the game's stealth rework came out at the same time)
  • Zyra likely combines two relevant Semitic roots:
    • z-r-ʕ "plant"[1], whence Hebrew זֶרַע zeraˤ and Arabic زَرِيعَة zarīˤa;
    • z-h-r "to shine"[2], whence Arabic زَهْرَة zahrah "blossoming flowers; sheen, splendor, beauty".
  • Bradford 'CertainlyT' Wenban hinted at Zyra having three hidden passives later revealed to be:
    1. If Zyra kills either Karthus Karthus or Sion Sion (or if one of them kills her) the killer receives 2 extra gold (references Plants vs. Zombies)
    2. Maokai Maokai gets +1 movement speed if Zyra is on his team.
    3. Sunlight.png Sunlight makes Zyra grow in size for a short time.
  • Zyra's dance references Cha-cha-cha.
  • Zyra is the fourth champion to have a dedicated Recall.png Recall / Teleport.png Teleport animation.
  • Rise of the Thorns.png Rise of the Thorns (Zyra's first Innate) and Stranglethorns.png Stranglethorns have a cyan hue in her 'Champion Spotlight'.
  • Rampant Growth.png Rampant Growth might be referencing the eponymous card from Magic: The Gathering.
  • Enemies hit by Grasping Roots.png Grasping Roots are applied the 'Rooted, literally' cosmetic debuff for the duration.
  • Deadly Spines.png Deadly Spines's tooltip describing Thorn spitters as 'shooting little friendliness pellets' references Undertale.

  • Zyra wants to explore the world she glimpsed when consuming the sorceress, as well as to adapt to her new form, the fragility of which makes basic survival all the more important.[3]
  • Zyra (the predatory plant who relishes her new form) looks down on Maokai Maokai (the guardian nature spirit who laments his own) and yet they might be the only ones able to show each other the merits of their newfound bodies.[4]
  • Zyra might show some interest in Ahri Ahri considering the commonality in their acquisition of a humanoid form, but otherwise the Fox is merely a many-tailed snack.[5]
